Congress is getting an earful
WASHINGTON — Just hours after a state-owned Arab company announced a delay in its takeover of operations at port terminals in six U.S. cities, the Bush administration on Friday intensified its efforts to calm congressional jitters over the business deal.
.....
Several lawmakers said they saw no signs of a change in the tide of public opinion.

"Hundreds of … constituents have called to voice their opposition," said Preston Hartman, an aide to Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine).

King, in comments to The Times, said: "You should walk down the street in New York. I've never seen an issue where people are so angry…. The most angry response of all I'm getting is from Republicans."

Many lawmakers are angry at the administration's failure to consult them before the deal was approved.

"The way this has all been handled has really shaken my confidence" in the way the deal was vetted, Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-N.J.) said.

A bipartisan group of senators plans to introduce legislation Monday that would require an extended review of the transaction and give Congress the authority to kill it.

6. That is because the only people the King
listens to are Republicans. Dems in his district are beneath whale shit.

Trust me, I am one.

7. Well, that oughta tell you something. Something useful.
It means republi-CONS AND Republicans are jumping ship, pardon the pun, right and left.

Guys, these people march lockstep. Unlike us, they are NOT like herding cats. Lots of different issues being embraced almost to the exclusion of all else (excpet maybe for abortion). They are MUCH better than we are at uniting for one single overriding goal and focusing, focusing, focusing.

This tells you just how big an issue this is, and how we can and should be using this to our advantage. It's a splintering. And it may be the beginning of The Great Unraveling. I heard a report on Headline News this morning from a CNN correspondent referring to this as "good news for some Republicans in Congress who've been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time." Because it allows them a VERY popular way to distance themselves from a pResident they've long considered arrogant and increasingly imperialistic. But for quite awhile he held all the cards. And then it was that he held a lot of the cards. And then it was that he held some, or a few, strong cards, but still had kkkarl rove and others playing a very effective intimidation game to keep the herd in the corral. THIS, on the other hand, is the corral fence finally breaking open. Or maybe the hole under one end of it that's big enough to wriggle through, by now. Some of these have apparently been looking for just the perfect moment to abandon him, and see this as it because now, he doesn't hold ANY high cards anymore. The ONE card he had left that was foolproof (I will keep you safe from the terrists. I am the king of all national security issues), he just shat on.

These people, and frankly, many of ours, too, are opportunistic infections. They're following the simplest rules of nature - including the theories of Darwin. Even the religiosos like rick santorum are doing that. Even if they denounce him as anti-biblical, they still believe in, and seriously practice the rule of Survival of the Fittest. It's pack mentality. We see it in our dog - always looking for an opportunity to become the top dog. Failing that, always looking for the opportunity to sidle up to whoever IS the top dog, and stake a secure position. If the top dog is perceived as wounded or failing or absent in some way, you bet your first dollar he'll be in there trying to step in and claim he's king. bush, THEIR top dog, is now perceived as wounded, or failing, or absent (or all three). They see the handwriting on the wall, and know THEY, not he, face the direct wrath of the voters. And they're not gonna hitch their wagon to an anvil anymore. The next time kkkarl comes at them threatening they won't get help in the next campaign if they don't do what bush wants, they're gonna respond - "Promise?"

4. King made me a bit nervous on CNN this am - He's talking
about how he thinks the Dubai company would have to do a full investigation, before he is satisfied.

Seems he is trying to frame an argument to make himself appear to be all about what the people want.

WE DO NOT WANT THIS DEAL IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM in any of our ports!!!!!!
