Harris admits link to corrupt donor

DEMOCRAT WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris was forced again Friday to distance herself from a bribery scandal that already cost one congressman his job.

The contributions to the lawmakers' campaigns were considered illegal because Wade or his company reimbursed employees for the checks they wrote to the campaigns, according to the federal court document.

The court document does not indicate Harris is suspected of any illegal activity, but her connection to the biggest bribery scandal to hit Congress in years won't help Harris' struggling Senate campaign.

''Mr. Wade discussed opening a defense plant in Sarasota that would create numerous high-skilled, high-wage jobs in my district," according to her statement.

I know some people here are not too pleased with Mr. Nelson, but I'm still happy to see news that ebbs for him sticking around . . .particularly if the alternative is Ms. Harris.
