Should Congress deny the $70 billion more to Bush for war in Iraq?
Once again, Bush is asking for a "supplemental" appropriation of another $70 billion dollars. Why could n't he have requested that in his budget? Is this another $70 billion down the rathole? Why not appropriate another $25 billion for the sole purpose of getting our troops out of the country? That's the last penny you suck out of the American people, Mr Bush. It's time to end this tragic folly of yours. Spend the money wisely.

1. They should, but not enough will
There's only about a hardcore of 50-60 who vote against these massive giveaways to the Military-Industrial Complex

2. Yes and I bet this is outside the budget.
The Greedy Old Party is really going nuts with our money.I wonder where Bush got the thought in that brain of his that business for profits could always do better than a gov. of the people?

3. the Dems are "f**king NOWHERE" on Iraq
Edited on Sat Feb-25-06 08:20 AM by welshTerrier2
this has been among the very saddest chapters in the Party's history ...

last week, there was an article in the Boston Globe suggesting that Dems may finally find unity around Howard Dean's plan to get all troops out of Iraq by the end of 2007 ... 2007!!! are you f**king kidding me ??????????????

and Clark is still going on about regional diplomacy or whatever he's still peddling ... and Kerry has no answers either ... his "most of the troops out in a year" was DOA ... and the rest of the "put politics first" Dems are totally disgraceful ...

when will they learn that the only way to oppose bush is to oppose bush ... all their little "pretends" have done nothing but prolong the war ...

perhaps worst of all is that the Dems don't speak out against this war every single day ... it's easy to criticize bush's mishandling; it's more important to genuinely educate the American people about the reality that we cannot succeed in Iraq ... but, of course, when all you care about is not appearing weak, that's just not going to happen ...

7. I said "Congress" - not "Democrats" ??
It's time for the Republicans to step up and do their job. Election time is approaching. They had better wake up because their people are not marching with them. If they look back, they may find that no one is marching behind them.

9. I know.
Republicans like Hagel (McCain is useless, he wants to increase the number of troops) are all about lip service.

10. I used to respect McCain...
Then he thought he had to do all this crazy shit to appeal to the same base that supports George Bush and he's completely lost his marbles...

8. Bush diverted FEMA funds to DHS; these billions will go toward Iran.
Edited on Sat Feb-25-06 08:27 AM by Divernan
The Bush administration has repeatedly and arrogantly demonstrated that it ignores oversight requirements. It never went to Congress for approval while DHS was transferring FEMA funds and personnel slots to other areas of DHS. We have repeatedly seen there is a pathetic lack of accountability or oversight of moneys voted to be spent in Iraq. Just how detailed can a $70 billion request be - maybe each line item is generalized enough to call for millions at a minimum - and how easy is it to redirect less than a million at a time. Much of the money designated to rebuild Iraq's infrastructure ended up going for training Iraqi forces (massively unsuccessful effort) and to supplement security to protect Halliburton, etc.
