Nominate your choice for a theme song for the Bush Regime.
With the developments of the past few weeks in particular, my nomination is:
" Send in the Clowns,
don't bother there here."

8. Radiohead's "2+2=5"
Are you such a dreamer
To put the world to rights?
I'll stay home forever
Where two & two always
makes a five

I'll lay down the tracks
Sandbag & hide
January has April showers
And two & two always
makes a five

It's the devil's way now
There is no way out
You can scream & you
can shout
It is too late now
Because

You have not been
paying attention

I try to sing along
I get it all wrong

I swat em like flies but
Like flies the buggers
Keep coming back

Maybe not
"All hail to the thief"
"But I am not!"
"Don't question my authority
or put me in the dock"
Coz i'm not!
Go & tell the king that
The sky is falling in
But it's not
Maybe not.

11. 'Dogs of War'

Dogs of war and men of hate

With no cause, we don't discriminate

Discovery is to be disowned

Our currency is flesh and bone

Hell opened up and put on sale

Gather round and haggle

For hard cash, we will lie and deceive

Even our masters don't know the webs we weave

On world, it's a battleground

One world and they smash it down

One world…one world

Invisible transfers, long distance calls

Hollow laughter in marble halls

Steps have been taken, a silent uproar

Has unleashed, the dogs of war

You can't stop what has begun

Signed, sealed, they deliver oblivion

We all have a dark side, to say the least

And dealing in death is the nature of the beast

On world, it's a battleground

One world and they smash it down

One world…one world

The Dogs of War don't negotiate

The Dogs of War won't capitulate

They will take and you will give

And you must die so that they may live

You can knock at any door

But wherever you go, you know they've been there before

Well winners can lose and things can get strained

But whatever you change, you know the dogs remain

On world, it's a battleground

One world and we're going to smash it down

One world…one world

14. What A Fool Believes
But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
There’s nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees...

Maybe not for Bush, but certainly for the Bushbots.

17. Wasteland of the Free by Iris DeMent
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 03:02 PM by Armstead
Written and recorded by iris DeMent in the 1990's. More relevant than ever. Musically it's awsome too. The tune and arrangement reflect the anger of the lyrics.

http://www.irisdement.com/main/lyrics.asp

WASTELAND OF THE FREE (Iris DeMent)
(c) 1996 Songs of Iris ASCAP

Living in the wasteland of the free...

We got preachers dealing in politics and diamond mines
and their speech is growing increasingly unkind
They say they are Christ's disciples
but they don't look like Jesus to me
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We got politicians running races on corporate cash
Now don't tell me they don't turn around and kiss them peoples' ass
You may call me old-fashioned
but that don't fit my picture of a true democracy
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We got CEO's making two hundred times the workers' pay
but they'll fight like hell against raising the minimum wage
and If you don't like it, mister, they'll ship your job
to some third-world country 'cross the sea
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

Living in the wasteland of the free
where the poor have now become the enemy
Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones
Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy
Living in the wasteland of the free

We got little kids with guns fighting inner city wars
So what do we do, we put these little kids behind prison doors
and we call ourselves the advanced civilization
that sounds like crap to me
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We got high-school kids running 'round in Calvin Klein and Guess
who cannot pass a sixth-grade reading test
but if you ask them, they can tell you
the name of every crotch on mTV
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We kill for oil, then we throw a party when we win
Some guy refuses to fight, and we call that the sin
but he's standing up for what he believes in
and that seems pretty damned American to me
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

Living in the wasteland of the free
where the poor have now become the enemy
Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones
Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy
Living in the wasteland of the free

While we sit gloating in our greatness
justice is sinking to the bottom of the sea
Living in the wasteland of the free
Living in the wasteland of the free
Living in the wasteland of the free

20. No Remorse ~ Metallica
No mercy for what we are doing
No thought to even what we have done
We don’t need to feel the sorrow
No remorse for the helpless one

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Blood feeds the war machine
As it eats it’s way across the land
We don’t need the feel the sorrow
No remorse is the one command

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Only the strong survive
No one to save the weaker race
We are ready to kill all comers
Like a loaded gun right at your face

War without end
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath
No remorse no repent
We don’t care what it meant
Another day another death
Another sorrow another breath

Attack
Bullets are flying
People are dying
With madness surrounding all hell’s breaking loose
Soldiers are hounding
Bodies are mounting
Cannons are shouting to take their abuse
With war machines going
Blood starts to flowing
No mercy given to anyone hear
The furious fighting
Swords are like lighting
It all becomes frightening to you
Know death is near
No remorse

26. SAY, that would make a great media presentation!!! (dialup-pic heavy)
Isn't it rich?

Are we a pair?

Me here at last on the ground,

You in mid-air.

Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss? Don't you approve?

One who keeps tearing around,

One who can't move.

Where are the clowns? Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped....Opening doors,
Finally knowing
The one that I wanted was yours,

Making my entrance again...With my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault, I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want -
Sorry, my dear.

But where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Quick, send in the clowns.

What a surprise.
Who could forsee
I'd come to feel about you
What you'd felt about me?

Why only now when i see
That you'd drifted away?
What a surprise.
What a cliche'.

Isn't it rich?

Isn't it queer?

Losing my timing this late
In my career?

And where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother - they're here.

34. "Ship of Fools" by World Party
Lyrics:

We're setting sail
To the place on the map from which no one has ever returned
Torn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that bur-urn
Torn by the promise of the women and the lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It's the place where they keep all the darkness you meet
You sail away from the light of the world

Listen baby - you will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow

Save me, save me from tomor-orrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of foo-ools, no no
Oh-oh-oh, save me, save me from tomor-orrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of foo-ools, no no
I want to run and hide
Right now - ri-ight now-ow yeah-eah-eah

Avarice and greed are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you-ou drifting in the shallows
Drowning in the oceans of history
Travellin' the world, you're in search of no good
But I'm sure you're philosophic like I knew you would
Using all the good people for your galley slaves
As your little boat struggles through the the warning waves

But you will pay, you will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You gonna pay tomorrow

Save me-ee, save me from tomor-orrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of foo-ools, no no no no
Oh-oh-oh, save me, save me from tomor-orrow
I don't want to sail with this ship of foo-ools, no no no no

Where's it comin' fro-om or where's it goin' to?
It's just a - it's just a ship of ools

Yeah, oh Lord

The party's over
It's time to call it a day
They've burst your pretty balloon
And taken the moon away
It's time to wind up the masquerade
Just make your mind up the piper must be paid

The party's over
The candles flicker and dim
You danced and dreamed through the night
It seemed to be right just being with him
(Bush)
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend

41. "Let's Have a War" by Fear
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 07:35 PM by Patsy Stone
Let's have a war
So you can go and die!
Let's have a war!
We could all use the money!
Let's have a war!
We need the space!
Let's have a war!
Clean out this place!

It already started in the city!
Suburbia will be just as easy!

(Chorus)

Let's have a war!
Jack up the Dow Jones!
Let's have a war!
It can start in New Jersey!
Let's have a war!
Blame it on the middle-class!
Let's have a war!
We're like rats in a cage!

It already started in the city!
Suburbia will be just as easy!

(Chorus)

Let's have a war!
Sell the rights to the networks!
Let's have a war!
Let our wallets get fat like last time!
Let's have a war!
Give guns to the queers!
Let's have a war!
The enemy's within!

It already started in the city!
Suburbia will be just as easy!

59. Lyrics
I built a little empire out of some crazy garbage
Called the blood of the exploited working class
But they’ve overcome their shyness
Now they’re calling me “Your Highness”
And a world screams, “Kiss Me, Son of God”

I destroyed a bond of friendship
And respect between the only people left
Who’d even look me in the eye
Now I laugh and make a fortune
Off the same ones that I tortured
And a world screams, “Kiss Me, Son of God”

I look like Jesus, so they say
But Mr. Jesus is very far away
Now you’re the only one here
Who can tell me if it’s true
That you love me, and I love me

They Might Be Giants

44. Pink Floyd - Pigs
Big man, pig man, ha ha charade you are.
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha charade you are.
And when your hand is on your heart,
You're nearly a good laugh,
Almost a joker,
With your head down in the pig bin,
Saying "Keep on digging."
Pig stain on your fat chin.
What do you hope to find.
When you're down in the pig mine.
You're nearly a laugh,
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.

Bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are.
You fucked up old hag, ha ha charade you are.
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass.
You're nearly a good laugh,
Almost worth a quick grin.
You like the feel of steel,
You're hot stuff with a hatpin,
And good fun with a hand gun.
You're nearly a laugh,
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.

Hey you, Whitehouse,
Ha ha charade you are.
You house proud town mouse,
Ha ha charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street.
You're nearly a real treat,
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
.....! .....! .....! .....!
You gotta stem the evil tide,
And keep it all on the inside.
Mary you're nearly a treat,
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry.

45. It seems that the songs suggested fall into one of 2 types.
They seem to be about either how incompetent these fools are or how evil these thugs are. Both of which are apt. The evil category has by far the highest number of submissions so I would like to add to the incompetent genre the theme song from the Three Stooges. I can easily picture that raucous tune being substituted for Hail to the Chief when Doofus swaggers in to lecture us on good and evil or whatever his on his overtaxed mind at the time.

Bomb the world

Ý
Please tell me the reason
Behind the colors that you fly
Love just one nation
And the whole world we divide
You say you're "sorry"
Say, "there is no other choice"
But god bless the people them
Who cannot raise their voice

(chorus)
We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can't bomb it into peace
Whoa we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can't bomb it into peace

Ý
Violence brings one thing
More more of the same
Military madness
The smell of flesh and burning pain
So i sing out to the masses
Stand up if you're still sane!
To all of us gone crazy
I sing this one refrain

(chorus)
Ý
And i sing power to the peaceful
Love to the people y'all
Power to the peaceful
Love to the people y'all

Ý
Bomb the world (armageddon version)

I don't understand the whole reason why
You tellin' us all that we need to unify
Rally round the flag
And beat the drums of war
Sing the same old songs
Ya know we heard 'em all before
You tellin' me it's unpatriotic
But i call it what i see it
When i see it's idiotic
The tears of one mother
Are the same as any other
Drop food on the kids
While you're murderin' their fathers
But don't bother to show it on cnn
Brothers and sisters don't believe them
It's not a war against evil
It's really just revenge
Engaged on the poorest by the same rich men
Fight terrorists wherever they be found
But why you not bombing tim mcveigh's hometown
You can say what you want propaganda television
But all bombing is terrorism

(chorus)
We can chase down all our enemies
Bring them to their knees
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can't bomb it into peace
Whoa we may even find a solution
To hunger and disease
We can bomb the world to pieces
But we can't bomb it into peace

911
Fire in the skies
Many people died
And no one even really knows why
They tellin' lies of division and fear
We yelled and cried
No one listened for years
But like, "who put us here?"
And who's responsible?
Well, there's no debatin'
Cause if they ask me i say
It's big corporations
World trade organization
Tri-lateral action
International sanctions, satan
Seems like it'll be an endless price tag
Of wars tremendous
And most disturbingly
The death toll is so horrendous
So i send this to those
Who say they defend us
Send us into harm's way
We should all make a rememberence that
This is bigger than terrorism
Blood is blood is blood and um
Love is true vision
Who will listen?
How many songs it takes for you to see
You can bomb the world to pieces
You can't bomb it into peace

(chorus)
Power to the peaceful
And i say, love to the people y'all
Power to the peaceful
And i say, love to the people y'all

(chorus)

54. "Jump For Joy" by Warrior Soul .... Lyrics here:
needle boys in the park rotten cops after dark

politicians underground no light can be found

all the pimps all the whores all demented religious wars

evangelist so corrupt arm out palm up

jump for joy oh jump for joy

worlds end

jump for joy oh jump for joy

worlds end

all the oil that you pump my world's a garbage dump

land developed by the pigs you consume everything

bronze iron turn to steel eat your plastic at every meal

drink the water then you choke your bank account you're broke

jump for joy oh jump for joy

worlds end

jump for joy oh jump for joy

worlds end

populations multiply there are holes in the sky

tv man shit on you you love to be screwed

packaging maniac guarenteed money back

a no-money superstar the u.s. on credit cards

jump for joy oh jump for joy

worlds end

jump for joy oh jump for joy

worlds end

silence descends as i walk astray god please keep me straight for just one more day

times are bad I hurt what can I do I just need some time alone with you

here we are back again we have come to the end

no use for you to cry

55. "Monster" gets my vote!
Does anyone here remember the "Rolling Stone" interview with John Kay after "Monster" was released?

The interviewer was perplexed since John Kay had come to America from Communist Europe, had prospered and profited here and, in "Monster", was issuing a brutal lashing of the very nation which had been so good t him. Asked why he was being so caustic, Kay answered (more or less) "I don't want America to become like the place I left!"

Right now, however, my (imaginary) stereo is playing "Lawyers, Guns and Money"... ponder that!

57. Oh. One more just came to mind: "Hangin' Fire" by Jimmy Cliff
with the memorable chorus:

"When the hotter clap come...

Where you gonna run?

when it's Hangin' Fire!"

61. Cult of Personality-Living Colour
Cult of Personality
(V Reid, C. Glover, W. Calhoun, M. Skillings)

Look into my eyes, what do you see?
Cult of Personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
I'm the Cult of Personality
Like Mussolini and Kennedy
I'm the Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality

Neon lights, A Nobel Price
The mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You don't have to follow me
Only you can set me free
I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your T.V.
I'm the Cult of Personality
I exploit you still you love me

I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the Cult of Personality
Like Joseph Stalin and Gandi
I'm the Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality
Cult of Personality

Neon lights a Nobel Prize
A leader speaks, that leader dies
You don't have to follow me
Only you can set you free

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You me power in your God's name
I'm every person you need to be
I'm the Cult of Personality

63. Amerimacka

Miss Liberty turn inna Jezzabelle
All de dreams you go sell, de whole dem turn inna hell
Her bed of roses are filled with thorns
Her righteous robes are tattered and torn

If she had only stood for love
That would have been enough
She wouldn’t have to hide her shame
If she had only stood for love
That would have been enough
But now she’s burnt us all with her flames

Amerimacka
Oh what a beautiful life
Amerimacka
Is like licking honey off a knife

Amerimacka
Oh what a beautiful sight
Amerimacka
Oh what a beautiful life

The land of the free built on slavery
Our consciousness in captivity
The promise land is the liar’s den
Your culture of greed has got to end

Now we’re laying in the mud
Looking up above
Tear water just ah drop from the sky
They try to keep us in the mud
Separating us from love
But me nah go let dem conquer de I

Amerimacka
Oh what a beautiful life
Amerimacka
Is like licking honey off a knife

Amerimacka
Oh what a beautiful sight
Amerimacka
Oh what a beautiful life
