Some damned CNN person tried to be a spoiler...but I'm tuning in at 8:00 p.m. (est) to WATCH IT...and I don't WANT TO KNOW.

I am rooting for Slutskia (sp) the Russian...with the heart problems but if Sasha makes a come back...I'm okay with that.

I'm trying to get over my Michelle grief...........:cry:

There were A LOT of Great Skaters who deserve our :applause: though...ones we will be watching in the future.

BTW...I LOVE DICK BUTTON!!!!! :D...The Curmudgeon that DU'ers who watch the Figure/Dance/Pairs/ Skating DON'T GET.

Especially the part about Dick Button -- he is absolutely the BEST commentator because he tells you when moves aren't right. I used to skate and I think part of the reason I did it fairly well was because I grew up watching Dick Button tell me what imperfection was. (People used to tell me I had a wonderfully straight back when I skated ... thanks, Dick!)

And the Michelle grief ... I've reluctantly transferred my loyalty to Sasha, only because I think she is carrying on in Kwan's tradition of grace over sheer athleticism. And although I didn't want to know ahead of time, if the post below is correct, I won't be disappointed because I think the skater in question is another Yuka Sato (graceful), more than a Tara Lipinski (an ice gymnast more than a lyrical skater).

And...about Dick Button...that many DU'ers found offensive. He tells it "like it is" about the rules that govern figure skating and he was an Olympic Gold Winner himself way ...way back but he knows the background and really can tell folks what it takes to be a Champion.

18. I Think Sasha Is Simply Beautiful To Watch...

more than Irina. But Irina has more athleticism and GREAT jumps.

And maybe I shouldn't say this, I NEVER thought Nancy Kerrington (is that right) was all that good. I felt she was too stiff and didn't have much grace. Plus she seemed much too bratty!

Sasha has so much grace and just flows on the ice, whereas Irina is simply fantastic with jumps and technical skills! And even though he didn't win, Johnny Weir is sublimely graceful!

14. Suck my Button, Dick

I respectfully disagree about Dick Button. I can't tell you how many times I've lunged at the TV hoping to strangle him. Just a few of innumerable complaints:

He's a master of stating the obvious.
He talks during the skate so I can't hear the music and I can't enjoy the performance. You can talk and analyze all you want during the replay but SHUT UP ALREADY during the skate!
He goes on and on (talking during the skate)when somebody messes up. 30 seconds into a beautiful skate: "Oh, she just doubled her first jump and she's lost the whole competition! It's too awful! Just terrible!" ad nauseum
He is biased and has obvious favorites and unfavorites. I'm happy with my own biases, thank you.
He is a little too creepily fond of the cutest youngest female skaters.

...and did you ever see his medal winning performance in the age of the dinosaurs? It wouldn't stand up to the last place finish in the most podunk competition these days.

Many apologies to those I've offended. He drives me berserk!

20. Button's better now that he's toned down the inappropriate...

comments about the female skaters looks. I used to find him unbearable. I think someone may have had a little talk with him about some of his remarks. Now he just compares skaters' costumes to his dining room drapes and the like.

I like Scott Hamilton. He may be like a Boy Scout on speed, but he seems sincerely thrilled when skaters do well, and always reaches to find something positive to say about their performances. He also seems blessedly free of sexism when commenting on the women.

21. Scott is a terrific commentator

I don't think anyone knows more about skating, skaters or competition than he does, and he's very articulate in his own way. And yes, I'm certain he hopes everyone skates their best.

My favorite commentator was Peggy Fleming, always so gracious, finding something good to say about everyone ... the anti-Button!

I'm still grieving too...But, I kept track of the live results online this afternoon and so I know what happened.

I love Irina too...and Fumie Suguri also...

Sasha's good but she's not my favorite...

I do love Dick Button, though. He's got his own special charm about him, doesn't he? :)

16. I Already Know... I Can't Stand The Suspense So I Find Out Before

things happen just to know IF I want to watch! I suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and can't stand the ANXIETY! I'm that way with ANY competition!

I've always been so impressed with Irina and didn't know until recently about all her health problems! But I actually didn't like the pants outfit for the short program! That coming from someone who NEVER wears dresses!

I won't give it away... but I WILL watch!
