While waiting on my gums to get numb at the dentist, I was reading in Fortune magazine the FEB 7th issue on page 18.

Halliburton and ORiental Kish Oil won a contract in January to drill for gas in IRAN

Oriental Kish contracted out the work to Halliburton Products & services LTD., or HPSL A DUBAI-BASED SUBSIDIARY works solely in IRAN

33. or Cheney climbing out of the hole he dug with the acquisition
of Dressler and the subsequent asbestos suits. i've felt the perks that went to halliburten were recompense for the costly mistake he made. of course congress has just bailed him out nicely on the asbestos liability.

5. We don't have a country
I sadly think it's dead and any chance of getting it back is gone. It's a world of multi-nationals and all these ME wars are about is getting rid of the few hold-outs that wouldn't go along.

I've googled, canofuned, cnned, anything I can think of and :grr: Does anyone have a link?

HALLIBURTON'S TEHRAN HIDEAWAY
(FORTUNE Magazine)
By Vivienne Walt in Tehran
February 7, 2005

(FORTUNE Magazine) – "HALLIBURTON!" CHIRPED THE employee who answered the telephone in Tehran. Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran, part of the "axis of evil"? Yes, the company was a tenant, confirmed the guard in the lobby of a building on Bucharest Street when we dropped in one recent afternoon. The staff rarely invited guests up to their tenth-floor offices, said the guard, and the company's name was not among those displayed on the lobby wall. Halliburton finally dispatched two Iranian staff members to ask this reporter to leave. Said the guard softly: "We're not too sure what the company is up to."

So are U.S. companies tiptoeing back into Iran, ten years after Bill Clinton imposed sanctions? Iran's deputy petroleum minister for international affairs, Hadi Nejad Hosseinian, certainly thinks so: "The U.S. oil companies are in touch with us," he told FORTUNE in his office in Tehran. "American companies are very interested in investing in Iran," he said, adding that a top U.S. oil executive, unnamed, visited him in Tehran last summer. "They want to show their objection to the U.S. administration." In Halliburton's case, it says Oriental Kish contracted out the work to Halliburton Products & Services Ltd., or HPSL, a Dubai-based subsidiary registered in the Cayman Islands, which works solely in Iran. "These entities and activities are staffed and managed by non-U.S. personnel," says company spokesman Wendy Hall. "Halliburton's business is clearly permissible." A second Houston oil services company, Baker Hughes, is weighing doing part of the work with Oriental Kish, according to sources close to the talks.

26. That is the company that KBR uses to deal illegally with Iran?
I know that one of the subsets of Halliburton is dealing whatever they can to Iran right now in violation of law, which of course doesn't matter if you are Cheney connected.

28. Halliburton-Cayman Islands-Dubai
~snip~ from 'Doing Business With The Enemy' dated Aug. 29, 2004

"In a letter to New York City Comptroller Thompson, Halliburton says its Cayman Island subsidiary is actually run out of Dubai. 60 Minutes went there and learned that it shares office space, phone and fax lines with a division of its U.S.-based parent company -- which raises more legal questions about its independence from Houston. But once again, our inquiries went unanswered."

29. More on Halliburton/Iran/Dubai in THIS THREAD (LINK & excerpt):
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x503235
thread title (2-23-06 GD): ""HALLIBURTON!" CHIRPED THE employee who answered the telephone in Tehran.
Excerpt: “…In January Halliburton and the local Oriental Kish Oil won a $308 million contract to drill for gas in Iran's giant South Pars field. ‘Halliburton and Oriental Kish are the final winners,’ Akbar Torkan, managing director of Pars Oil & Gas, said on national TV. The statement sparked fury among Iran's hardliners. One newspaper warned, ‘Footsteps of the Yankees heard moving in on Iran's oil sector.’ While Halliburton insists its activities in Iran are entirely legal, some in Congress claim that the Houston oil services giant is milking a loophole in the U.S. embargo that allows foreign subsidiaries of American companies to work in Iran. ‘They are operating on the very boundaries of legality of U.S. law,’ says Dan Katz, chief counsel for Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D--New Jersey), who has long argued that Halliburton--once run by Vice President Dick Cheney--is exploiting its political clout. …”
And note the connection with Dubai/UAE:
Excerpt, continued: “…So are U.S. companies tiptoeing back into Iran, ten years after Bill Clinton imposed sanctions? Iran's deputy petroleum minister for international affairs, Hadi Nejad Hosseinian, certainly thinks so: ‘The U.S. oil companies are in touch with us," he told FORTUNE in his office in Tehran. Halliburton has been dealing with Iran for years – see this report from August 2004 in Reply #21:
Excerpt: “Halliburton sells about $40 million a year worth of oil field services to the Iranian Government. (AP / CBS)” and more at this 8/04 link: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/01/22/60minutes/main595214.shtml

Dems: Law Broken On Iranian Deals

Kellogg Brown & Root, or KBR, also is being investigated by the Defense Department over several alleged instances of bribery and overcharges to the U.S. government in Iraq and Kuwait. Two Democrats, New York City Comptroller William Thompson and Rep. Henry Waxman of California each told the Forward that they suspect Halliburton of violat-ing U.S. sanctions against American companies doing business with Iran — an allegation company officials vehemently deny.

"It is inconsistent to have some companies violate sanctions against countries we list as terrorists be awarded contracts in Iraq in the context of the war on terrorism," Waxman said. Waxman, one of Halliburton's staunchest critics on Capitol Hill, said he sees "some indications" that his recent request for hearings on Iraq reconstruction contracts might be accepted by the Republican chair of the House Government Reform Committee, Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia. Calls to Davis's office were unreturned.

Thompson is training his sights on the Iran dealings. "There is a clear violation of the spirit of the law," he told the Forward in an interview. Referring to a recent report on "60 Minutes," Thompson added: "And what I saw on CBS leads me to believe there might very well be a violation of the letter of the law as well."

Waxman's and Thompson's complaints revolve around a Halliburton subsidiary called Halliburton Products and Services, which is based in Dubai and registered in the Cayman Islands, a tax haven in the Caribbean. As the Financial Times first reported, the subsidiary opened an office in Tehran in February 2000, when Cheney was still CEO of Halliburton. The subsidiary has sold $40 million worth of oil services in Iran.
