Did Dean support a war in Iraq?
I usually do not pay attention to Larry Elder, but he did have this comment http://www.dailybreeze.com/content/opinion/1546074.html

supported resolution called Biden-Lugar, which authorized military action in Iraq without the need for the president to seek another resolution.

What is this resolution? From when? Did it pass?

If this is taken out of context - this is, after all, Larry Elder - then the Dean campaign has to have a reply.

1. Dean on Iraq
Dean:Saddam must be disarmed, but with a multilateral force under the auspices of the United Nations. If the U.N. in the end chooses not to enforce its own resolutions, then the U.S. should give Saddam 30 to 60 days to disarm, and if he doesn't, unilateral action is a regrettable, but unavoidable, choice.

Dean:"In Iraq, I would be prepared to go ahead without further Security Council backing if it were clear the threat posed to us by Saddam Hussein was imminent, and could neither be contained nor deterred."
http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2004/dean/dean021703sp.html

Dean:"never been in doubt about the evil of Saddam Hussein or the necessity of removing his weapons of mass destruction."

2. The resolution was never offered on the Senate floor
I'd be curious to see what it said, myself - it was never submitted in the Senate and therefore the text is not available via THOMAS.

5. I posted it the last time you asked.
The only difference from IWR was that in B-L Bush had to send a note to the Speaker of the house and the pre pro tem of the Senate.

Supporting B-L was NOT the antiwar position. Dean has been lying throughout this campaign.

3. Short answer: no.
He supported Biden-Lugar, which never passed. Since it did not pass, it's not logical to assume that he would have supported the IWR without amendment, and he himself has stated that he would not have, I believe.

4. ?
The major difference between the two resolutions is that the version agreed upon by the House and the president today authorizes Mr. Bush to use force to enforce "all relevant" United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq, leaving the White House free to determine what is relevant. In contrast, the Biden-Lugar language specifies that force is authorized to secure the destruction of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and its ballistic missile program or to defend the United States and its allies against those programs.

There's an assessment of Biden-Lugar vs. the WH resolution on Iraq. I don't know if Dean supported it, but, as you can see, it didn't authorize what Elder wrote.
