The average Bushie can say what they like about Rice, but there's a certain percentage of them that will never vote for either a woman or an African-American. They may tell pollsters one thing, but they just can't help themselves. They'll sit back and wait for her to say something moderate and then use that as the excuse for staying home (they wouldn't vote for a Democrat in any case). She'll turn out to to be pro-choice or not horrible on gay rights issues and then they'll have their excuse. I doubt that too many Democrats will cross over to vote for her since she is so clearly identified with Iraq and Democrats are pretty unified in their unhappiness with the war.
