On this records issue
I have tried to make this point before to no avail. But I will try one more time.

Many gays wrote this man, saying they were gay and thanking him for civil unions. I was one who did so. I honestly can't recall exactly what I wrote. I was newly sober back then and it was a time ago so I don't know exactly what I wrote. It is quite possible I just wrote a one or two line thank you. It is equally possible I wrote a more personal missive which someone who knew me well would recognize as being my letter. I really don't recall.

But regardless of what I did or didn't write, I fail to see why its contents is any of your damn business. Civil unions was a personal issue for many people and thus generated many personal responses. And removing just the names isn't going to cut it when it comes to protecting those responses. I know many of you don't give a damn about things like this. Your lack of response on gay rights threads make that abundantly clear. But for those who do, for those for whom exposure might mean harm to them, this issue matters. I don't care if you care or if you don't.

1. It goes beyond that for me. This could be used as leverage against Bush.
...to open HIS records. What leverage would exist if Dean's already opened his?

At the very least, the fact that Bush hasn't opened his would make this a complete non-issue in the general election.

2. I thought his explanation of the rrcords issue
was agreat answer. It left me with no questions. I think that he is doing great on MTP. TR is a corporate media whore.

3. I haven't seen it yet. I do, however, agree with the explanation he's
given in the past.

6. This is about Dean's sealed records
people keep telling us that Dean must be lying about them when he states he had decided to seal them to protect the privacy of gays who have written him.

7. Admirable reason
Dean obviously broke with tradition and set an exciting precedent in civil rights by creation civil unions. This accomplishment cannot be taken away. However, his terms as governor of Vermont were not fully consumed by the question of marital rights for GLBT couples. How would this issue have affected energy policy? Policing? Higher education? Dealings that the state had with large corporations? It seems that Dean can release some records without infringing on people's privacy.
