My best argument against Bush
My best argument against Bush: I have family in Iraq. I believe their best chance to survive is for multinational forces to take over operations. Bring in the UN. Iraqi will never accept US presence. A Bush administration will never, "no matter what they say", go for this.

Nothing more need be said when making this argument, though the list of Bush's sins/failures is long. I am voting against his war plans. His leadership will lose the war on terrorism.

I'm also trying to act like a conservative; to appear like a reluctant, disappointed convert willing to vote for a centrist because we need one. I'm going to try to keep my head cool.

Loyal rank-n-file republican will not be impressed with (radical?) liberal reasoning. There are plenty of swing voters out there who may take cues from like-minded 'stability' types.

What's your best argument?

1. Depends on who
To my stupid friends I point out that he was a cheerleader.

To my college friends I point out the cutting of education and exportation of jobs.

To my blue collar friends I point out the pro-immigration bill and ending of overtime.

To the old people I point out the prescription drug ripoff, rising property taxes, health care costs, and soon to be ending of social security.

To my conservative friends I point out the insane deficit and unparalleled fiscal irresponsibility.

To my military friends I point out the lies for war, the ending of veterans benefits, and AWOL status.

The only people who are completely immune to a Bush attack are fundamentalist Christians. He's done everything they want.

2. The deficit
I describe the Bush deficit as stealing trillions of dollars from children. Anyone with any sense of honor or self respect wouldn't steal money from children.

I ask, with perfect politeness, if they would mind if I came over and stole money from their children. No? Would that make you angry? But you can steal money from my child and you want me to accept that?

Or, I just say, with perfect politenss well I value the lives of American soldiers more than that, so I'll be voting against George Bush.

Nope, they don't like the NEA. Mention that funding.

Another thing about bush, he has shown little regard for human life. If he was the man of God he pretends to be, he would have allowed the inspectors the time they needed in Iraq (he went on a timetable and wanted to, didn't have to) and he would have paid his respects to the servicemen and women and their families.

3. I just say
"Name one good thing bush has done, that wasn't a no-brainer." What great, groundbreaking thing has bush done to deserve another term? If you don't add the no-brainer part, people usually answer with -"Well, he's against killing kittens," or something just as stupid.

4. Be Yourself, don't play a role...
Thinking you'll swing voters over. Many are ready to swing. All the above points are solid reasons to get this guy the heck out, but don't try and be something you're not.

You're right about the loyal rank-and-file Republican. But loyal, rank and file Americans who are registered as Republicans want to see this guy sent to Crawford as much as you do. I'm one of the latter.

Be honest and reasoned. Back your assertions up with facts. Have those facts documented. And the truth shall set them free.

BTW, I'm re-registering as a Democrat on Monday.

6. The economy
When talking to workers, I mention the cut in overtime for a lot of folks and how the Shrub has sent letters to employers telling them how to evade paying overtime to the rest.

When talking with small businessmen, I look at the huge deficits and the fact that the Fed is only waiting until after the election to raise interest rates.

I don't have family in the military, or I'd use that arguement as well. When I do talk to military families, I always ask if their loved ones have the equipment they need, and have even donated money to get it. I mention that it's a shame that Shrub gave the rich so much money he can't afford to buy our soldiers the protective gear they need.

I don't need to talk to Seniors about the Medicare drug bill. They come up to me and complain!
