Audit Finds FEMA Wasted Millions
Audit Finds FEMA Wasted Millions
February 10th, 2006 @ 4:29 pm

This has certainly been a day for FEMA/Katrina news. First we have Brownie spilling the beans all over the Senate hearing floor, and then John Kerry calls on Bush to fully fund the Katrina Disaster Loan program, and now… OUCH — NBC News reports FEMA “wasted millions”:

The first investigation of how the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) did in paying benefits to Hurricane Katrina victims suggests massive fraud and the waste of millions of dollars of millions of taxpayer money.

Even given the scope of the disaster and FEMA’s need to get money to victims quickly, experts say the Government Accountability Office report is damning. The GAO found “significant fraud and abuse.” Investigators studied more than 200 cases, and say in 70 percent of them aid recipients gave bogus Social Security numbers — numbers that belonged to dead people, to someone else or to no one at all.

And when investigators checked out addresses given in these cases, about 40 percent were bogus — vacant lots or nonexistent apartments.

2. And tomorrow we're going to learn that Billions were wasted in Iraq.
Damn. What we really need right now is the fiscal responsibility of a Democrat. Atleast when they "wasted" money, our economy churned.

3. I would be surprised
if it's just millions. People who work for * know how to waste/steal/launder money. I would bet it's 9 digits (100's of millions).

4. As in Halliburton getting $3,000 for nailing down blue tarps on roofs?
Those fucks were getting about as much as an entire roofing job on smaller homes just for taking a few blue tarps which cost little and nailing them down.

HELL YES MILLONS were wasted.....
