I Think It Was An Affront To The King Family That 41 & 43 Were Even...
in attendance at the funeral. They, their party and people like them did everything possible to kill the King message (no pun intended). Why were they even invited? Or did they insist on being there - you know - for political reasons/photo op. Why isn't the MSM criticizing those 'two-faced' twits. At least Babs had the decency to not show. She didn't support the King's while they were living - why support them when they die.

2. It's bad enough they showed up..
But who in the hell put them up on the podium????? Seriously, put armed guards at the door to keep out all Republicans. Amazing what they think they can get away with.

3. The way 43 was slouching
And making weird faces - so visibly while others were speaking - and 41 and his lost page nonsense - they both seemed like a couple of clowns.

:grr:

4. You have a point, but then
How many funerals are attended by 4 Presidents? Raising awareness of the King legacy can't be bad thing.

My kids all know MLK because of the holiday and what WE teach them. Most of them had no earthly idea who CSK was. The fact that four presidents attended her funeral made them sit up and take notice.

We can't have it both ways. If we can agree that political statements are appropriate at a peace activist's funeral, then we have to allow political figures to come.

And I agree that Mrs. King would have reached out to all who came to honor her. She was classy that way. And a great role model for all of us.

5. I believe 43 HAD to be there, as a sitting president
This woman's husband is the only single individual to merit a federal holiday in this country. For 43 not to be there would have been more than an affront; it would have been a slap in the face. Regardless of his party he is the sitting President and it is basically just "fate" if you will, that she passed in a Republican administration.

I am not getting into his speech or his politics at all, just the fact that THIS is a funeral that deserved the attention of the highest position in the land, regardless of who it was.

6. The way he acted, it would have been better if he hadn't shown up.

Required Formality or not, Bush in person is still worse than any Faux Pas he would have committed by not being there.

Both Bushes are racist, criminal traitors who must be made to stand trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

7. I agree that he should be there to pay respects. He wasn't..
going to be there originally and was getting criticism. It turned out to be good he was there and had to sit and listen to the truth, instead of having a hand picked audience fawning over him. I loved it and applaud the people who spoke out.

9. i read somewhere that he had "rearranged his schedule" 3 days before the
funeral to attend it. the way i read that was that he had no plans or intentions of being there, but three days before the funeral someone told him he had to connect with blacks and that was one, they suggested it, of doing it.

It was an affront to me to see him there when neither he nor his ilk respect, appreciate nor believe in any of what the kings did.

but then, it may have been okay with coretta to have him there in the spirit of her pacifism which takes after ghandi and after jesus christ, as she herself had said.

8. 43 sat back and watched Afro-Americans die in Katrina - the hypocrites
should not have been allowed in the room.

11. Barbara Bush not there. I've been looking for her quotes-

Maybe you can help: I 've been trying to fiind remarks Bar made - within the past 3 years I think - about talk of MLK's image on stamps or currency.
She was horrified at the very notion.

I think it was Bar and 41 chatting with Larry King about upcoming changes to some of the US currency - she said something like 'oh no - I hope they aren't putting that MLK on anything!"
41 tried to ease her fears because "only Presidents" could be on US Currency . (right Mr Hamilton, Mr Franklin)

There was some other nasty anti-MLK crack some time earlier having to do with (i think) MLK postage stamps.

Anyone else remember this stuff?

Add that to the Astrodome remarks and I think it is clear whay she wasn't there!

10. It doesn't matter if they were there, as much as the fact that
our fucked up media, with their Rove memo in hand, are attempting to say that somehow Ms. King's funeral should have shown "respect" to the fact that they were there. Why is that? I don't think they were begged to attend.

A person only dies once....so no one should have shit to say about their funeral service.

The media has some fucking nerves! They disrespect at every turn! Assholes!
