"When al Qaeda calls someone in this country, we want to know..."
Who actually has a problem with that statement? Most people that are following this domestic spying story are not really concerned about Bush spying on al Qaeda. They know he cannot be trusted. It is not al Qaeda spies that he is spying on - it is American citizens, it is political opponents, it is people that that are opposed to his policies. That is what people are concerned about. And that is what they are doing and are using al Qaeda as an alibi to escape discovery.

1. Their modus operandi is to create straw men
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 10:27 AM by emulatorloo
to claim that Democrats don't want to spy on al Qaeda. Dick Cheney claimed the other day that "several prominent democrats blah blah blah"

Now, name one Democrat who doesn't want to spy on al Qaeda. NOT ONE.

This is the bs they pull time and time again, esp w Kerry in 04. BS mis-characterization that the media reports breathlessly.

2. We need evidence
Right now all we have is suspicion. Anyone who has researched this please post links.

3. Yes. Suspicion.
But suspicion that many of us believe to be true. That is why we want to investigate. Because we believe they are covering up. Those that have complete faith in George Bush believe the opposite. He would never do such a thing. I believe he is capable of that and much more. But we will never know if they refuse to let the truth see the light of day. We will continue to live under suspicion. Is it for real? What is your opinion?

6. Three of my letters took VERY long to reach their destinations
1. 12 months ago a letter mailed from L.A. to Orange County, all in Calif. took 2 weeks.
This letter had the peace symbol in the lower left corner, 1/4" diameter PLUS an anti-Bush
saying such as Bush Lied - Oil is Why. the contents was a check to a business/vender.
2. 1 month ago an envelope, containing a check for Digi-Key, electronics parts disty, was "shredded" by the postal service handling equipment. Check was returned with numbers stamped on the back, un-redeemed or uncashed, with an explanitory note, sans orig. envelope. Check was source of my address for return. That time I had the peace symbol, left corner, 1/4" dia., with another epithet like, "100,000 Iraqis civilians killed"
3. Two weeks ago, in a 8"x8" greeting card envelope, with a thick funny birthday card and several guitar pics, BUT no peace symbol or anti-Bush quips, the delivery took 7 business days to travel 50 miles!!

Does this satisfy your curiosity about whether or not there is tampering/intercepting of the mails?
This anecdote may not be useful for prosecuting a case against domestic spying w/o any cause, but DUers should be on notice, our shit is not private. FGWB

4. Common sense says.....
Well common sense tells us that there must be some reason they didn't do what everyone else has done since 1978 and why they didn't go to a Congress that is not only a rubberstamp for them anyway but especially on the TERROR issue and double especially THEN.

Okay so they are spying on political opponents and/or this is bigger than they want anyone to know about. We already have reports about the amount of data that was collecting being so big that it weighed down the system and still was of no use what so ever.

Common sense tells me that they restarted the Total Information Awareness program and hid it under this name or this (not a program as Plain Adder pointed out) under this operation.

Just a guess but one based on common sense.

8. During the Sept. anti-war rally in L.A., totally peaceful, 3 swat goons
marched through the middle of the gathering, intimidating and trying to incite us.
They were black clad, open faced, flak vests with side arms, jack-booted and scowling.
When I said, "cheer up GENTLEMEN, it's a great day for a demonstration and all is peaceful" the ranking 50 yr old said politely if not curtly, "yes it is".
What was their interest in a very public, stage microphoned, PERMITTED, assembly!! This is just a minor anecdote in the anti-war events, and if any have violent police reports FIRST HAND, I think it will serve us well to consider and learn about them.

11. Yes but can they prove
Any of the calls were not involved with a member of Al Queda. The proof is up to us and they are never going to give that information, you'll have to pry it from their cold dead hands.
