Would we prefer a liberal cable network - like Fox?
Most of us agree that "the news" should be neutral - a buffer of protection between the people and the government. We gripe daily that CNN in general or MSNBC's Hardball in particular are not "on our side". Is it proper that they be on our side?
If it's so objectionably obscene for Fox to be blatantly conservative - which is obvious from DU's postings, wouldn't it likewise be so should another network be totally liberal?

Do we pray for the emergence of a liberal network even while admitting there should be no bias in news productions?
Are we just trying to "get even" - one network for them and then one for us? Would that be payback, like evening the playing field?

Do we strive for something which is generally agreed to be inherently wrong? It seems contradictory to vehemently condemn a practice while wishing for the same advantage.

Would it be best to work toward the extinction of the Fox types rather than payback-in-kind? There'd be no end should the battlelines be broadened; one for them and one for us, then matching left and right perpetually - all the while ignoring the soon-to-be obscure fact that biased news is basically wrong.

Seems hypocritical to condemn so harshly on basic principle while yearning for the potential benefits should we be so "fortunate". Does "Don't get mad; Get even!" become more important than the underlying basic wrongness of the policy of partisan news reporting?
We desire a measure of that which we detest. To hell with Constitutional principle when desperate times require desperate measures?
Does a personal constitution sometimes suffer death for the sake of political survival?

...O...

2. I've never wanted a liberal news network. ANY bias in reporting leads
to an uninformed conclusion. What I pray for is a return of the fairness doctrine and an unbiased, trustworthy media.

4. I don't want a liberal network, but if Fox isn't going to change,
I think we need a liberal one to offset them!

I would love to have the days of Cronkite and Huntly & Brinkley back! Unfortunately I don't see any of todays broadcasters who could fill those shoes.

8. Fox news looks like religious programming to me
I hadn't watched television for years, other than for weather or local news. But lately I've found myself checking out things being discussed.

WOW. If you surf around and find one of those religious shows, then go to FOX news, it's amazing how similar they are. The same strident, preachy tone. Same issues about sex, homosexuals, war. Bizarre. Even the women "anchors" are wearing that heavy face makeup.

FOX could put an 800 number on the screen, and I swear people would call in and donate.

7. Fox should be boycotted and banned
The next Democratic administration should revoke their press privileges and deny them access - based on unitary executive power and national security reasons and all that stuff...

10. Hate to break it to you.....
But CNN and MSNBC are just as bad.....if not worse. Hope you've checked out Wolf ticket Blitzer and Candy Crawley and .....well all of them, except for one. Apart from KeithO on MSNBC the rest of the line up are nothing by biased propagandizing fools.

ABC and NBC are so close behind, it ain't even funny.

Banning the one that is obvious will mean the ones that are smarter at the propaganda (cause obviously we all know about Fox)will remain. That will just leave us fooled just a little bit more.

9. I want the fucking truth......
Like it was promised in the Bill of Rights. I want a FREE PRESS, not a BOUGHT AND PAID FOR Press!

We need News that understands "priority" and STFU and stop interjecting opinion everywhere. News without the talking head shows.

15. How about unbiased, non-partisan, investigative, public watchdog...
...completely separate from corporate bean-counters, not beholden to anyone's bottom line, aiming for the truth and facts instead of pretending "he-said, she-said" is balanced...

I would be grateful to listen to any news broadcast that was all of the above, and not presented like some ratings-driven info-tainment segment. Send reporters from the Bill Moyers School of Investigative Journalism (how I wish there really was one) to every station in the land and turn them loose.

Any more stations like FOX would serve no one.

18. No.
I want "news" to be neutral. I don't want the left to mirror the right in lying, spinning, and misleading people; I think the truth can stand on its own and I want the plain, bare, facts, please. If you must have ideological "responses" on the airwaves, don't call it news, and don't make your spinmeisters bedpartners with your supposed journalists.

25. Would you like to win some future elections?
Then just say YES!!

Fox isn't gonna just go away on their own. As long as the sheep are falling victim to their neoconservative biased views on a daily 24/7 basis, then we better wake the fuck up and start getting equal time so we can win back some of the fence sitters!

31. But then, there is the catch:
I don't want to "win" if I have to lose to "win." If I think there is an ethical problem with Fox "news," then I'm not going to engage in that same unethical method, or I didn't "win" anything.

Do I want to win elections? Yes. But not at the cost of my own integrity. The U.S., imo, would be in a lot better shape no matter who "won" elections if integrity were a personal and political value.

I want equal time with some version of a fairness doctrine; not equal time to be as unethical as the other side.

21. YES, it is WAY OVERDUE! fox is a busness. Airamerica is a busness...

The new thing is that NEWS IS FOR SALE.

CNN. MSNBC. CBS. ABC...

are all out to make MONEY!

a liberal network would take market share from the others, and that in turn will make them more moderate.

we need a liberal cable channel, THE MARKET IS THERE!

24. It's hard to believe we dont have a liberal network yet to go against them
just like we waited too long before someone came up with an answer to rightwing hate radio.

What's obscene is that liberals have let Fox put its neoconservative views out there for so long without reprisal. No wonder we can't win important elections. The fools in this country suck in whatever Fox pukes out.

YES IT'S TIME TO GET EVEN!!!
