Diebold agrees to waive proprietary claims
"Diebold agrees to waive proprietary claims to GEMS database files

http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/1954/17793.html

This is big, and has nationwide implications as it can open up access
for Volusia County, San Diego County, DuPage County, and other
areas where questions have arisen on voting machine results.

Black Box Voting has been assisting the Alaska Democratic Party
in fighting for the right to obtain the Diebold "central tabulator"
database files.

The crux of the dispute: According to Alaska Democrats, official
results from Alaska's 2004 election are riddled with discrepancies
but the Alaska Division of Elections refused to turn over the
voting files to the Democrats, arguing that the data format belongs
to Diebold and can't be made public. Diebold told Alaska officials it
owns the "structure of the database."

Today, Diebold caved and released its proprietary claims. The
formal letter from Diebold and the implications of this, which are
significant, can be read at the link above..."

6. According to articles, it's the rightwing calling Bev Harris a Freeper
WHY on earth would she be a Freeper?? It doesn't make any sense in the entire world to me.

According to KOS, John Dean, and numerous other people who have been fighting the long, hard Diebold fight.. there's even a group of right-wingers out to trash Bev Harris. They have a website according to the following article called "BashBev"

http://scoop.epluribusmedia.org/story/2006/1/15/212746/691

*** Please tell me why you (like them) called her a FREEPER ?????

20. You folks must be new around here?
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 06:11 AM by DoYouEverWonder
Maybe Bev isn't a freeper but she's certainly not welcome around here after all the crap she pulled on Andy Stephenson.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of good and decent people who got involved with BBV, who don't understand that Bev is only interested in Bev. So if some good comes from all of their hard work then great, but in many ways Bev has done a lot more harm then good for the cause.

23. .
I did join DU post Andy Stephenson so please excuse my ignorance about that. After your post, I did a Google and was able to get the jist of what you were saying about Bev. I have read arguments for and against her and the whole situation is definitely shady. I had always heard that one of the BBV sites was less than honorable, so I guess Bev's site is the one? I'm still a little confused as to all the details that went on but if what I read is true, then I have to agree with you about her.

16. Seriously? You may be holding a new election for senator? Are you
talking Stevens or Murkowski? Wow! Hope this sets a precedent for a bunch of other states with suspicious senate wins!

4. This is --HUGE-- news for Alaska !!!
Don't forget- there are paper ballots on-hand here to challenge the BOGUS Diebold GEMS system!!!

The 2004 election in Alaska is so riddled with problems, that residents now have no clue who won. Not a friggin' clue.

Bush was given over 101,000 votes he didn't receive.
Lisa Murkowski's was given over 77,000 votes she didn't receive.
One heavily Republican District in Anchorage reported a 239% voter turnout.
And the list goes on and on and on.

I know in some states, having Diebold cave in like this may not make a difference. But from what I've read from the Alaska Democratic Party, they WILL be able to prove them DEAD WRONG here. :)

BTW - I'm not overly familiar with Bev Harris. I know her name from reading info at BradBlog and Blackbox Voting.. but why is she a Freeper? http://eliteleague.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/duh!.gif

21. My county - I just found out last night - is considering these
pieces of shit to replace our old voting system.

I need some mainstream links - stories in local newspapers - to convince my county commissioners NOT to vote these crapolas in.

Where can I find some links to mainstream media? I'm not sure my county commission would pay much attention to links to BlackBox Voting and Brad Blog, unfortunately. I know there are some links to local papers in Ohio and Alaska.

Please help me find them before I have to vote absentee all the time.

Screw these Republican owned and operated electronic voting machines.
I will NEVER have confidence in them - nor in any elections for that matter.

13. How did corporate rights ever trump free and open elections? I don't get
why this even gets argued. In my mind, anyone who says, the rights of the corporation outweigh the rights of the people, lacks the integrity to hold office.

Just like the 4 boxes of "evidence" that Alito never was in that discrimantory club at Princeton?

It would be nice, but after all this time, I don't trust the information will be reliable.

19. Only because this specific fuck up was probably the caused by
Alaskan election officials rather than Diebold's software.

The joke is that they pretended that they their "proprietary rights" trumped the public's right to examine election results for rudimentary accuracy.

22. If Diebold's software did malfunction
This could be an open door to challenge other results in other states.

There are too many instances where exit polls were wrong, and that's usually not the case. A thousand votes here, a couple thousand there, and before you know it the results are changed.

Please keep us up to date on this story, I'll be watching too.

24. But the software the ACTUALLY USE will not be known.
I don't trust these clowns at all. Those in power know that once they are in power, it's impossible to do anything about it. Otherwise Bush would not be in office right now.

Mark my words- their advertised software may be public, but I doubt they will use software that is public.

And Diebold should be out of the voting picture completely, after what they did. Ridiculous!
