on edit: here's the relevant quote:

The man is a LIBERAL. His lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union is just 41. You read that right - FORTY-ONE. Democrats like Ben Nelson of Nebraska have higher ratings than Chafee does!

1. Ben Nelson needs to change parties, the faster the better
and good riddance. He's no different than Zell miller.

2. Nebraska's ideological spectrum is a hell of a lot different than R.I.
Personally, I find blue-state Republican Senators far more intolerable than nationally center-right leaning red-state Democrats. Most of those red-state Democrats are actually left-of-center in their respective constituencies, but appear to be center-right from a national perspective. Nelson is not the enemy. Our enemies are so-called Republican moderates, like Chafee, Snowe, and Collins, who oh so often really allow the right wing to flourish, when we could easily get people with 80-90% liberal ratings to replace them. We're never going to get a solid liberal to replace Nelson, but we sure should make every effort to get solid liberals in solid blue states.
