Does anyone here literally pray for your candidate or the Dem. Party
Just asking because I read an article about all these prayer groups that pray for *. Surprisingly, a couple of them say that they will not pray for * to win the election because it's not fair for God to choose one candidate over the other.

I'll be honest - I literally pray to for JRE to win the nomination. I feel it is a prayer not for him, but one for the future of America. I guess I'm not much better than those right wing Christian nuts :-)

5. Yep. I pray for deliverance.
from the evil ones.

I pray for the best Democratic candidate to be nominated and for Bush* to go home to his faux ranchette. Really.

So I'm willing to let the voters decide the nominee without getting shrill about my own choice, because maybe what is meant to be, will be.

I've rarely prayed for anything in my whole life. But I pray for CLARK and our country very night. Say a prayer for him when you read this. Bless you Wesley Clark.

15. I used to think the same thing but
I had an experience 6 months ago that PROVED to me there was something after death. Now I am a true believer...but it's hard to break a lifelong habit. A little prayer can't do any harm...unless you pray for someone else besides Clark. LOL

13. I have never understood the concept of prayer.
If 'God' knows our every thought, as we were taught in Sunday school, then why do we need to make a special effort to talk to God??? Seems like a waste of time to me, belabouring something already known to Him/Her/It.

Does not compute...

14. Yes.
I pray every day, for this nation and for the world. I do not ask anyone to share my spiritual beliefs, but we should have respect and courtesy for even those things about others that we do not understand. I believe that if we do not beat bush in November, there will be a draft in early 2005.I recently bought a draft counselor's manual from the Center on Conscience & War. The bush administration will definitely not recognize Conscientous Objector status. I believe that the day will come when thousands of us will need to converge upon the Capital, and have prayerful demonstrations of faith in non-violence. I am older, and will not be drafted, but I have teen-aged sons and nephews. They will not kill or die fighting in the Middle East for Halliburton. Many of you may not share my spiritual beliefs....and that is fine, but please do not insult those who do. And, for those who do, please be ready if needed. A demonstration of 50,000 people in silent prayer will mean more than 50,000 people rioting. Finally, we should pray for bush as Martin Luther King prayed for Bull Connor ... he is our morally ill brother.

22. I pray for everybody
:)

Seriously. I do. I pray first for my family and friends. Then I usually pray for everyone in my city, state, country, and the world. And if there's anything special (someone sick) I usually mention them and their needs separately (this is where Kucinich comes in). I also pray for his supporters. And I also pray for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, for their families, and also for the people in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I pray a LOT, actually.

31. No, because it doesn't help
If I thought it would do the slightest bit of good, I might even be desperate enough to try it ... and this from an avowed atheist. But it doesn't help. There's nobody listening. If there were fairness and justice in the universe, Dubya would have been sent packing back in 2000 because he LOST, and all the vile schemers that pulled every dirty trick to get him installed, would have been sent packing with him. The disaster that the country and the world spiralled into as a result, would never have occurred. It's been one horror story after another, and no 'god' has lifted a finger to stop it. (And nothing will make me believe that 'god' as he's generally portrayed, would approve of these theives and liars!) The worst of the worst have gotten away with every crime, when meanwhile the good people have gone down in flames (some literally - think Paul Wellstone), and every glimmer of hope is crushed. If Dubya is selected a second time, by hook or by crook, the worst is surely yet to come. Praying about it, alone, won't make the slightest bit of difference - though if it makes people feel better to do so, I can't fault them. Everyone has their ways of coping and centering themselves, so it's not my intent to disparage anyone. But we all need to remember that we actually have to do the work ourselves.

36. I feel sometimes there is no one listening
but I pray anyway, especially since Dec. 2000 and everything thats happened since. Lately things seem more dire than in Dec. 2000.

Still gotta pray for your guy, though, even if no ones listening.

37. Gods Promise - Woody Gutherie
I didn't promise you skys painted blue,
or colored flowers all the days through.
I didn't promise you sun with no rain,
joys without sorrows,
peace without pain.

I didn't promise you goals without trials.
Fruit with no heart sweat
No tears without smiles
Hot sunny days without cold winter snows
No victory without fire
No fears without hope

All that I promise is strength for this day.
Rest for my worker.
My light on your way.
I give you truth.
When you need it, my help from above.
My undying friendship.
My unfailing love.

I promise you power,
This minute, this hour,
The power to you need.
If you fall on your knees
I'll give my peers.
And the strength to pull home,
my love for all races.
All creeds and all kinds,
my flavors, my savors.........

Can't remember the rest
