in the near future as bin Laden and his Number One man have predicted?

33. you mean WHEN they attack again...
Right? you should have seen Public TV last night... the group is hatching cells across western europe so fast it looks like poisonous mushrooms growing in cowshit in the morning... Several countries, including Spain have detained and are trying the more vocal leaders but Bush won't let them put detainees in Cuba on the stand to convict the bastards... As usual Bush helps Bin Laden as his old buddy Bin helps the tyrant.

7. My neighbors are all regular folk and democrats who happen to think
the patriot act is a good idea. As we'd like to remain good neighbors I don't argue the point beyond agreeing to disagree. That said, let's hope nothing happens...the repubs will point their fingers at the dems for not renewing the patriot act. At least that's my neighbors take on it, on that point we agree.

Expect immediate suspension of all civil rights, rounding up of anyone suspected of any kind of activity, internment camps for all Arabs / Muslim people, and declaration of war against Iran / Syria

21. They'll Blame Bill Clinton or Maybe Harry Reid
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 01:59 PM by trishp
After Bush bumbles his way through threatening speeches, the minion machine will go to work on talk radio and talk television, and somehow it will be Bill Clinton's fault, or maybe now Harry Reid. It depends on who they can blame and get the most mileage. The next attack...and there IS one coming..will once again be used for political purposes just like 9/11 was. Personally, I think they would welcome one. Just think of the benefits Bush and Co. will get from another attack. They can keep people scared and maintaining the status quo. It will insure 06 victories for Republicans, regain support for the Iraq war, the NSA spying will be ok, and so on, and so on. There will likely be a call for war on Iran and a lot of hate crimes against Muslims.

The Murkan Sheeple will march on Washington, holding what's left of their civil rights out saying:

"PLEASE, my LORD! TAKE these Rights from me and SAVE ME! SAVE ME from Al-Ka-Seltzah! Make it go away! Make it so I can worry about nothing more than who'se getting shit-canned on 'Survivor' next week! SAVE ME, Mr. BUSH!!! 11. Regardless of how Americans would react if left to themselves,
Bush will institute martial law in all but name. And Americans will be told that they overwhelmingly approve of these new measures. Since they generally believe what they're told, the effect will be the same as a "spontaneous" embrace of the new Police State. America will be a Fascist Dictatorship that believes itself free, and which invokes the term freedom a lot--probably more than ever before--but which in fact fears and hates actual liberty and craves the lack of responsibility that blankets a population under despotism and which replaces real security with the comforting feeling that Big Brother can do what "he needs to do" to protect you.

And when he doesn't protect you, the failure will be chalked up to the limitless power of Evil that coils in the hearts of our adversaries, not the incompetence or indifference or possible malevolence of a secretive government that terrorizes its own people to stay in power.

12. Well, I know how I'll react. I do believe people will become more,....
,...rather than less suspicious and/or skeptical of the BushCO/neoconster regime.

I'll be very pissed off but not at all surprised because there hasn't really been effective investment in improving our security,...it's all been a profiteering game by the powers that be.

I think it'd work AGAINST Braindead Leader. He keeps TALKING and TALKING about 9/11 and security and how HE's the only one who can keep us "safe" and then ... we realize WE'RE NOT SAFE? I think the public might actually turn against him, considering "Brownie" and the Katrina response. There would DEFINITELY be more explaining to do this time than after 9/11, and I don't think * and his cohorts would get a second free pass.

24. they aren't likely to sit still, waiting for people to formulate questions
Edited on Tue Jan-31-06 02:45 PM by kenny blankenship
the President will commandeer airtime from all networks to address the nation. Measures will be announced to tighten security which will be sketched out vaguely, promising both greater effectiveness while being fair. But more importantly the President will promise retaliation against the country responsible, either Iran or Syria depending on how Karl Rove's bowel movement went that morning. The doomed country won't be named during the address, but the President will say emphatically that he's putting our forces on full alert to strike at a moment's notice. "The Evil-Doers know who they are and they should know that their last hours are at hand." The American people are to expect war, not possibly but absolutely certainly. Everyone will then hold their breath-because when you're holding your breath you can't ask questions. Who's going to get it? Will we use our nukes? We'll wake up the next morning to read that downtown __________ is a smoking hole in the ground and our armored divisions are executing an "elegant" end-run attack on the forward defenses of the enemy while our plucky 82nd Airborne harrasses and pins down his reserves and rear echelons. It'll be a good old fashioned war, the kind we always feel good about for 10 minutes afterwards, until the next time. The strike on ___________ will precede any forensic placement of blame for the terrorist attack on any particular country--that and other reasons for choosing which country to decapitate first will come only later when they've been sufficiently fabricated. Meanwhile it's war on ____________ and anyone who says nay is a traitor!

Bush will do, in other words, what he ALWAYS does which is to act out of all proportion and polarize a situation so that in order to criticize him, you have to be on the other side of patriotic icons and institutions like "our troops" and thus expose yourself to a charge of disloyalty and treason. Speaking of treason, expect many people who've objected to his creation of a police state here in America to be charged with it. Formally. He will act not "preemptively" but preemptorily--shortcircuiting any national level debate among the elected representatives and the executive about what our national response should be. As always, before it's possible to call him to account on his last atrocity, he's rushing off to the next one, which you can neither prevent nor prosecute.

22. Judging from the reaction to the Katrina response
and the Chimp-tater's popularity, despite all intentions of the media, they'll be pissed. I think most rational sane people are already prepared for it to happen again, and they won't be so easily manipulated through a haze of shock this time. The failure to catch bin laden will be squarely laid on chimpy's lap. Hmmm--maybe that's why it hasn't happened again?

25. Bush would use it as an excuse...
to demand MORE presidential powers and get the benefit of blaming Democrats for hindering his work against evil by their opposition to domestic spying, the Patriot Act, GITMO, torture, etc.

And the American people will open their mouths wide and peep, "Thank you sir, can we have some more?"

I would bet cold hard cash on that.
