Should Al Gore leave the democratic party?
Got to thinking today about Al Gore and how much I'd love to see him run in 2008. Most people I talk to who aren't heavily into politics no matter how they vote believes there is no difference between the dems and the repukes.

If Al were to run in '08 would it be better if he came out as an independent? Could he get on the platform of how both the dems and the repubs have failed the country or something similar? Sure, he might have to thrash on the dems and there are times I think they deserve it for all the crap they let by without a fight.

But, do you think he might be more effective seperating himself away from the rest, standing out more and with a strong grassroots movement, do you think he'd have a chance?

Not that I think it would happen, but if by some wild chance it did, I'd follow.

1. I think that's just great
Split off enough votes such that no Democratic candidate could win. Good idea.

6. Maybe he should have left in 2002 when it was decided by
The-powers-that-be that it was someone elses turn and he, at the time, just basically forfeited his run and walked away.

7. Third Party candidates dont's stand a chance of winning!
The best they can do is be a spoiler to their own side.

If you look very closely at the way our election system, and the whole Fed Gov't is structured, you'll see what I mean.

8. Al got burned by Nader voters
in his presidential run. I'd wonder if he'd do that to the Democratic Party. It would give the Republicans a definite advantage.

19. The SCOTUS and Jeb Bush's tactics. Watch Greenwald's Unprecedented:
the 2000 election. They started purging the voter reg databases of African American voters months in advance of the election, along with many other tactics. There were a whole lot of things they did.

25. 3 Million Votes
97000 in Florida alone. If Nader hadn't been a factor in 2000 it might never have gone to the SCOTUS.

10. Al Gore's a Democrat. If he changes his mind and decides to run, he
will stand before voters as a Democrat.

And a damned excellent one at that. What a miserable puke Bush is next to Al Gore.

13. Supposedly Gore's the guy who talked Dean off the ledge.
...after the party stabbed him in the back. I doubt he'd bolt the party although tonight I wish he would.

Start over again, clean with a common sense message of smart foreign policy, health care for all, fiscal responsibility, environmental protection, competence, individual freedom, jobs and innovation. We'll take the fighting moderates and liberals who aren't afraid to call a spade a spade.

Let the Dinos continue to search in vain for the soccar moms.

15. I had thought about Dean starting a 3rd party
if he hadn't been elected chair of the DNC.

Now I am wondering if the DNC should kick the likes of Lieberman out.

24. I'm reminded of something Jimmy Carter said during his term...
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 11:54 PM by cynatnite
I want to talk to you right now about a fundamental threat to American democracy.... I do not refer to the outward strength of America, a nation that is at peace tonight everywhere in the world, with unmatched economic power and military might.

The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Carter

Maybe it's just me feeling this way...

I guess I'd like to see a presidential hopeful come out of America, neither a dem or a repuke, maybe independent or green, but someone who can do what Clinton did when he ran for office...both times. The man inspired the hell out of me. I felt real hope with him. The future looked so damn good and I really miss that right now. :(

Al Gore gives me hope and I honestly believe he's who America needs more than ever. I just have some doubts as to whether he should stay with the Democratic party.

I agree with all those who said we need a third party.
