2. More people want to speak their minds
and aren't content just to quietly read other people's remarks. It's a good trend, since if it continues, more people will want to take action rather than just watch other people act. Of course, that means there must indeed be enough examples to follow...

8. I was just telling someone Saturday.
We were out for a GOTV for Mark Herring. (Election Tuesday for state senate.) I paired up with an environmentalist in a suit. He could talk a blue streak about environmental issues, but he didn't know who Ann Coulter was. There were several other things he wasn't aware of like the Downing Street Minutes, Enron: The Smartest guys in the room, Abramoff did not give a penny to a Dem, and the Indian tribes who were his clients had traditionally given to Dems, but while clients of Abramoff, they still gave, but gave less to than they had previously.
He didn't know about H-1b visas. I said sure, Bush may announce a bunch of new jobs in this country in the last year, but he won't tell you how many H-1b visas were issued in other countries for the people to come here and fill those jobs.

I told him that I thought it was a dumb idea for businesses to have to provide health benefits for their employees in the US, but they could outsource those same jobs and not have to pay a penny in health insurance, because other civilized countries have national health insurance. The burden of health care insurance shouldn't be on the corporations of this nation. The government should assure each and every citizen a minimum level of health care coverage. My environmentalist companion agreed, but said he had never thought about it.

He knew about Cindy Sheehan, but had no Idea what MIHOP and LIHOP stood for. We discussed how the SOTU would interrupt the election victory party. He wasn't going to watch it anyway. I told him we had to, because our new fearless leader would be speaking. I was referring to the newly inaugurated Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, who will be telling the American people our side of the story. My environmentalist did not know our new golden boy had been given that spotlight of honor. Now that he knows, he wouldn't miss it for anything.

I could not have been as informed if I were not a regular reader of DU. I get more news here than anywhere else. I recommended DU to him. I told him DU didn't deal in rumors, the facts had to have links to sources here. He could be another new DU member by now.
