Woodruff wounded - terrible news but possible silver lining
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 01:45 PM by InsultComicDog
(edited to change objectionable title)

I think a lot of us are hoping that there will be an "aha" moment for those Americans who still don't comprehend what this war is all about. Sort of like when Cronkite turned against the Vietnam war.

And when a person that they know is gravely affected, it may help get some people to reevaluate the cost of this war.

I'm hoping, anyway.

4. You're right, media in particular
Hopefully it makes it that much harder for a reporter with any scruples to whore the Bush Administration spin on this war.

2. Sadly, this may be the only way to get the MSM report...
and in detail, the counter to the Bush* lies on the current situation in Iraq.

None of us would want to see Woodruff or any other reporter (much less our troops or the countless innocent Iraqis)injured. But, having happened, I truly hope it does have an "ah ha" impact on those media types who would knowingly suppress the truth.

3. There is no "positive spin"
We can only hope that the media, and America comes to it's senses, but a journalist being seriously injured is not positive ever.

5. Fair enough
I probably should have phrased it as a silver lining to a dark cloud. I'll change the title if the software will let me.

12. Shrapnel in the head?
 How horrible. I hope they'll be all right.

I hope this will focus the media on what a disaster the war is.

9. I think that you are right....
that when a person that they know is gravely affected, it may help get some people to reevaluate the cost of this war. However, there are also people with the mindset that say: "We need to get back at the people that did this", and so starts the cycle all over again.

10. They are "embedded"
and as such are somewhat restricted in what they can report and still stay "embedded" with the troops. I'm wondering if this incident will change that. More reporters saying "Heck with it, I'm gonna report what I really saw".

14. It could work the other way too.
From what I understand, most reporters report from the green zone because it's
simply too dangerous to go out as Woodruff did. So, what does that leave us?
No actual reporting, just the Bush spin masters. Give the American people a slight
distraction and they will forget about Woodruff in no time. My thoughts and prayers are with Bob, his cameraman and their families. It's just sad that they
completely ignore the deaths and injuries of our soldiers.

16. The actual reporting is usually found....
in the foreign press. Hate to say it but Al Jazeera has better coverage of the war than most US "news" organizations. We are fed only what the media masters want us to see/hear.
