In my experience, people tend to focus on the Presidential elections and kind of blow off the midterm elections, unless they know the other side is pushing for something big.
I don't know how we could pull it off but, is there a way to organize on a massive scale, without tipping our hand to the Republicans? To lull them into a false sense of security by pretending to be lackluster in our support of Dem Candidates, them take them completely by suprise when we show up at the polls in full force.
Our name implies that we are an underground movement, but we are monitored by RW Trolls and Moles. What can we do to be both effective, but low key, to rally a coordinated force of hundreds of thousands without kicking up the dust?
My first thought is of turning their tricks against them... For starters missinformation. Provided that our party knows in advance not to be disheartened when the early numbers come in, I say we mislead the pollsters. If you get a politcal survey call, say that you were a democrat but, that your voting republican this time. If one hundred thousand dems do this, they will skew the results and the Repubs won't try as hard, they won't pour obscene amounts of money into ad campains in a state they think will be easy to win.
My second thought is showing up on the very last day of elections. In 04 the polls were open for about a week, plenty of time to see which way the winds were blowing and organize a counter attack. If the early vote results indicate a Repub landslide, most repubs who haven't voted already will just stay home.
Then we strike, and strike big. Overwhemling force and all that. Even if it looks like we're going to win a state, go vote. Even if Dems outnumber the Repubs 10 to 1 in the lines, go vote, make it 20 to 1. Make the difference between the right and the left so apparent, that no computer fudging will be able to compensate.
Third thought, make your own paper trail. When you get to the part where the volunteers look up your name in the rosters, Bring a little sticker with you that says "In 06' I voted Democratic" and ask them to place that sticker by your name in the rosters. Also, it might not hurt to wear blue. Bring a blue jacket, or sweater, or T-Shirt, or whatever, and put in on once you've voted. Then gather somewhere not far from the polling place, it might even make the news, a thousand people, outside a polling place, waiting to see if the number of Democratic votes tallied from that polling place matches the number of people standing outside wearing blue.
Any thoughts or suggestions pretaining to this line of thought should be expressed freely, in the boxes below.
