US reporter attacks Russian professor during press conference in Moscow
http://english.pravda.ru/accidents/21/96/383/16804_NGO.html

The fight occurred in the middle of a press conference devoted to the recent spy scandal between Russia and Great Britain

A press conference which has been recently organized in Moscow by spokespeople for Russian non-governmental organizations ended with a scandal. The meeting, at which human rights activities were making cheerless statements for journalists about the alleged cooperation with British secret services, was unexpectedly interrupted.

A decent elderly man, who introduced himself as a teacher of one of Moscow universities, asked an innocent question about a real contribution of public organizations in the development of science in Russia. Instead of receiving an answer to the question, the man had to know that he was a provocateur. He listened to several other uncomplimentary statements, raised his voice and tried to shout down the indignant people. As a result, the woman hosting the conference said that she would call the police if the man refused to sit down and be quiet.

Some of the men present at the conference perceived the words from the moderator of the press conference as a signal for action. An American journalist from The Wall Street Journal decided to be the first on the list of "peacemakers." Having grabbed the old man by his tie, the journalist pulled it down. Other men from the audience dragged the fighters apart which allowed to avoid victims. When the press-conference ended, someone from the audience promised to settle scores with the man later

5. Yeah but a bunch of folks here keep posting their stories no matter
how much I assure them that they are on the level of a supermarket tabloid.

7. It doesn't because it didn't happen
Pravda prints shit worthy of supermarket tabloids. I highly recommend checking some of their past stories. They border from paparazzi to freaks of nature.

I am getting really freaking sick of people putting Pravda stories here, and I really hope that the mods start doing something about it.

People who believe Pravda are "Nastayashie Duraki"... ask any Russian.

8. Pravda is a reasonable news source.
They use AP, The Christian Science Monitor and The Guardian for a lot of their foreign news. It's a good source of Russian news like this which we can't normally get in English. They have a funny section of crazy stories like Reuters' "Oddly Enough" section. I think AP has one of those too.

Perhaps you are getting it confused with the original Pravda, the Soviet propaganda organ. It is not related in any way.

This story is quite believable, but the headline sounds like an exaggeration. The article says the reporter pulled his tie down. Not exactly an 'attack'.

There is no reason for Pravda articles be banned from DU.

11. Actually Yes, I am quite aware of it's previous and current status

and No it is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Excuse the Condiesque retort but I can and have actually read it in Russian as a part of the learning process. Russian friends and colleges (go ahead and ask one!) will gladly point things out that

you are quite mistaken in thinking that anything of what they print can be taken as true. Notice that the story does not appear anywhere else even in the Christian Science Monitor (who are surprisingly unbiased), AP, or the Guardian although they will sometimes use them as sources.

Please, if I wanted to hear about Batboy I would buy the World Weekly News.

10. This doesn't sound like a news article, certainly not LBN
A decent elderly man, who introduced himself as a teacher of one of Moscow universities, asked an innocent question...

It reads more like a conversation taking place on a Moscow park bench. The "report" doesn't even mention the alleged reporter's name. This is Pravda, a real rag.
