1. Better Late Than Never - Not This Time
CBS News: "Individually we may feel okay about our network, but the cumulative effect for viewers with 24-hour cable coverage is -- it may have been overplayed and, in fact, a disservice to Dean and the viewers."
-- Andrew Heyward, President - CBS News

ABC News: "It's always a danger that we'll use good video too much."
-- David Westin, President - ABC News

CNN: "We've all been wrestling with this. If we had it to do over again, we'd probably pull ourselves back."
-- Princell Hair, General Manager - CNN

Fox News: "It got overplayed a bit, and the public clearly thought that, too, and kept him alive for another round."
-- Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO - Fox News

2. Don't count on it...............
most people (including many here at DU) have made up their minds that Dean is too scary :scared: or too crazy  to be a viable candidate. Of course most Dean supporters knew that the context of that speech was taken completely wrong and embellished beyond belief, but once the toothpaste is out of the tube, there's no putting it back in. The damage has been done and the whore press is totally culpable.

4. exactly
when people on DU prefer to buy into the whole Dean is too "angry" concept, then there's not much hope for the rest of the country.

It's a shame people allow themselves to be so minipulated by the media.

5. Oh good grief .......give it a rest
I watched that speech with the volume all the way down and it still looked scary and weird. Nothing to do with the scream. It was the scary facial contortions. He looked like a madman.

7. Its not just that one speech
you combine it with telling that man to sit down and be quiet , to an interview with Dean admitting he sometimes needs to be restrained when he gets angry. He was already earning the reputation of being a hothead and then with that speech it was the final straw. This happened to McCain as well, remember?

8. EllieDem I take exception with your facial contortions
since obviously you have not looked at the natural contortion of the candidate you are supporting. Seems like you have a problem with natural enthusiasm and smiles. You don't like the man say so rather than hide behind a hyped up media story.

11. and your point is?
If you have trouble with someone who cares about America and SHOWS it. Someone who cares about his 3,500 teenage/young adult volunteers that walked sidewalks in subzero Iowa weather and still came in third, then I have trouble with YOU.

Why not put your vote to work for a stone-faced, unemotional guy who will quietly acquiesce to the BFEE, vote for the Patriot Act, vote for the Anglo-American Invasion of Iraq, and various other evil empire plots. Hey, why not vote for Kerry? He sounds like your man.

14. You DO realize
that he was giving that speech to over 3000 devoted campaign workers who had just busted their asses to work for him. They canvased in the freezing cold and some came from as far away as California. Would it have been better for him to walk in and say "yeah, thanks." He was trying to lift their spirits and from the looks of the video that was taken from the floor, he did just that.

This is the one I don't understand. If everyone in the room knew they'd come in third, how was it to their advantage for their candidate to act otherwise? How did he encourage them by acting like it was a big victory?

..........a verdict on February 14 handed down by the Court of Appeal of the Florida Second District. In that verdict the Court in essence said technically it is not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast.

Also a 1964 case out of New York.

I have to change the channel or hit mute everytime Kerry is on TV when my 3 year old is in the room because of his swearing. He even swore in a debate for crying out loud. I don't call that very presidential or any kind of example I want my kids seeing as president. No thanks. Kerry and his potty mouth can stay right in Massachussetts where he belongs.

13. This is a perfect example how the media assassinates
this is despicable.

Every Dem should keep this alive.

You just witnessed a character assassination.

The apologies will get no attention and the media and the pundits will continue to assassinate. Just listen and you will hear. No one is going to correct another pundit who corrects another. Watch their giggles and chuckles.

Take a look at what we face.

America led by our media is despicable.

And we buy the products that keep them rich.

They are paid by the government, your tax dollars, and corporations - and they assassinate all the little people when they assassinate a candidate.

Listen - this apology won't make one little difference.

questionable service records,Haliburton,or perhaps an investigation to discuss all of these issues.

25. The Damage Is Done!
I believe that the "powers that be" did not want someone in, that they could not control and they decided to "get Dean". There is no other reason for this rally cry, taken out of context, without the background sounds, to be broadcast over and over again! Not only in the news, but on late night, on the radio, songs being cut featuring it. You would have thought that Dean had been found with a "dead girl or a live boy"!

These same powers, really do not want the people of this country to rise up and take back the power! They have fought it everywhere else in the world. (Read Noam Chomsky's "HEGEMONY OR SURVIVAL"). And Dean was showing us a way to change this, to give the power back to the people. He was raising the consciousness of the American people, the young, were especially joining his cause. "They" have not forgotten, that it was the young which made them have to get out of Vietnam, by their protest marches. And, there are enough of us, who were young and protesting against that war, now in our 50's and 60's, who have children and grandchildren of fighting age, who were listening and joining.

Too powerful and uncontrollable! So, we must stop him!

Demand that all stations show this ABC admission as many times as they showed the "yell"! This is only fair.....and balanced! The owners of the media should not be deciding who wins for the Democrats! This is wrong, even if they weren't Republicans!

Makes you realize, whom they really don't want to run against, doesn't it?!!

27. Write the networks and Boycott Disney
I've written all the networks at their posted general email or complaint address.

I also strongly feel that since Diane Sawyer and crew admitted the foolishness after NH they should make a very sincere public effort to give Dean a chance to speak to the American people. they knew about the floor level tapes days before they released it, but they waited until after the NH damage was complete. Diane Sawyer was an end around a real apology, not the Real Deal,

Disney owns ABC and they should come forward and not only admit the mistake of the out of context video, they must give Governor Dean extended speaking time to converse with ordinary Americans.

Then play the Apology 700 times or more.

Boycott Disney

29. it isn't so lopsided
"The media" created Dean in the first place. They made him a household brand name ("Kucinich who?") because a Kerry-dominated primary was a perenial ratings hole. They rightly expected Dean to be a source of entertainment, and Dean did his part to meet expectations.

I heard and read about Dean many months before his name ever came up on the Media....through the INTERNET. The Media makes and breaks whomever their owners wish....The Media is Owned mostly by Republicans.....look it up!

We should not allow the Media to decide whom we Democrats want to be our President! That is all I am saying!

I have not supported Dean before, but I am taking a closer look at him now.

The MEDIA elected him Gov. of Vermont 5 times?
Dean was WAY under the radar the first time I heard him speaking about the healthcare crisis in this country. This was before the Iraq war. I sent him money BEFORE the Anglo-American Invasion of Iraq.

His popularity was buoyed by hundreds of thousands of donations under $100 from people with little money to spare.
