These exposures come in flurries that one suspects are payback for those in the "community" outing their rivals for gain outside the "rules". Adding them all up sounds like a secret mob war is underway with a token winnowing of weak links to teach the offenders.
Since this happens periodically it probbaly is the case and it is intriguing to spot what exactly started it all if it is visible and in kind, as it most likely is considering the measured response- in kind. What triggers the outing is usually even more interesting since it means someone is trumping both national and international security policy. British spies, German spies, Venezuelan spies. Someone is very pissed about getting outed to suit someone's needs.
Why do I suspect the Plameless hands of the Bush administration and that it might have something to do with laying out the smokescreen for the Iran War? Because most of the spy countries were avowed opponents of the Iraq War who gleaned popular support despite discreetly working both sides? Was it the torture investigation in Europe that proceeded despite secret nodding and complicity by host countries? That at least.
