1. I remember this date

I was awakened in my attic loft by my fellow NOW officers. I was the president of the chapter and the officers wanted to get together to formulate a statement. They were warning me the press would be calling but to wait to issue the statement until after the meeting.

Some scenes are indelibly inscribed in the mind and this is one of them. I'll never forget that cold morning, the bright winter sunlight falling on my green bedspread, the feelings I had that we'd finally achieved something that was long sought.
