Dean and Mehlman agree: The country is more important than party.
Yesterday on MSNBC Dean said the country is more important than party. Today, we find out from the DNC that Mehlman agrees.

DNC: Did Karl Rove Just Get Fired?

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Republican National Committee Ken Mehlman will address the Republican culture of corruption during the RNC Winter Meeting today, and according to his prepared remarks will declare, "The public trust is more important than party ... Which is why the first solution to the problem is rooting out those who have done wrong, without regard to party or ideology." Of course, it is difficult to take Mehlman's call for holding Republicans accountable seriously in light of the fact that he chairs an organization that brought us the K Street Project, a culture of corruption and once included Republican super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff among its members, according to the Democratic National Committee.

The credibility of Mehlman's call for cleaning up the Republican culture of corruption is further undermined by the fact that despite the fact that he is the subject of an ongoing federal criminal investigation for his involvement in the leaking of a CIA officer's identity, Karl Rove is a featured speaker at today's RNC meeting, and still remains in his Senior White House Post with a top secret clearance. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today called on President Bush to follow Mehlman's advice on ethics and fire Karl Rove:

"President Bush should follow the advice of his party chairman and hold Karl Rove accountable for his role in outing an undercover CIA operative. It is, indeed, time to put partisan politics aside and hold Republicans accountable for the culture of corruption they have brought to Washington. If the Republicans have finally decided to come to the table on ethics reform, the place to start is in the White House, and the person to fire first is Karl Rove. Only then can Ken Mehlman and the rest of the Republicans in Washington begin to talk with any credibility about joining with Democrats in fighting to end the Republican culture of corruption and provide the American people with the honest leadership and open government they deserve."

1. The only difference is Dean means what he says...........
Melmac is just offering lip service. Melmac and the Repiglickens don't really want reform, they just want to give the appearance that they want reform

3. Indeed, Mr. Tyree
You beat me to the comment, but it bears repeating: Gov. Dean means it; Mehlman thinks his party is the country....
