What exactly happened to the idea of power to the people?
Are we such babies that we need big daddy bush and company to protect us right out of our civil rights and freedoms? Being afraid is bad for humans. It makes them primitive and mean. Power to the People!!!

1. Bush overruled it
He said the Iraq war he started gave him the power to do so.

Get used to it.

2. I'm old. I can't. I really liked the constitution and the idea that I was
part of the power that ran the government.

3. People USED to own the airwaves - now Republicans have near total control
of all broadcast media.

4. Well, people used to read in depth also. My parents took a morning and
an evening paper and read both of them and that was not an uncommon thing. Bias went on in the editorial page but not in the news stories.

6. Representation of the people? How quaint. I'll get the list started.
Corporations became individuals with individual's rights.

Some shithead judge ruled that money was equal to speech.

The GOP led a revolt of angry white men in something called the Contract On America, and swept away every last vestige of a free press through systematic intimidation. Corporate "structured finance" gave them unlimited power to buy media and anything else they wanted.

They conducted an unprecedented propaganda blitz on public perceptions.

They own the voting machines.

9. I wasn't really paying attention when rupert murdock took over our
press but I remember my husband lamenting the fact as the start of the destruction of American civilization. I thought he was being a little extreme at the time. Now he seemed very far-sighted. He also said that taking off banking restrictions would be terrible for our country and he got that one right also.

7. The People fell asleep in the recliner while watching a Survivor marathon
We can't take more than 90 seconds of news or our heads will explode. And, we want at least 60 seconds of that news to be about Brangelina's baby or the lastest rude comment by Simon on American Idol.
