Bob Barr ......... what's your take ....... ?
...... a newfound friend?

...... has always been a good guy?

...... politics makes strange bedfellows?

...... an honest man with whom we have little in common but with whom we are able to respectfully disagree?

...... an asshole who assholery was revealed for all the world when he was a House Manager in Clinton's impeachment?

...... even a fucked up and broken clock is right twice a day?

I didn't want to do this as a poll, preferring instead to get a discussion going. I'll start. He's an asshole with whom we have one issue in common. If we can use him that's fine. Just don't invite his sorry ass to dinner.

if he does come to your house for dinner make sure you have whipped cream. He prefers it served on a stripper's breasts.

4. He's been very critical of the Patriot Act.

And things have only gotten worse since it's original passage (though now we're hearing of wiretaps preceding 9/11).

So in a way, it's no surprise. Govmint intrusion doesn't play well with staunch conservatives, either.

5. I said during the impeachment that....
.....someday they were going to find out that Bob Barr was a child molester or something. He IS very intelligent. And sometimes, when these guys get out of office, they start to think like THEMSELVES instead of like their party leaders or the lobbyists that put their kids thru school.

6. I wonder how he would respond, if someone asked him, today...
...whether Bill Clinton's actions truly rose to the level of impeachable offenses.

I think he may actually be parting company with the neocons on civil rights and constitutional questons. But, until the issue at hand actually threatened our democracy, he was willing to indulge in the self-serving partisan nonsense we saw from him during impeachment. I don't know if anyone remembers this but he was a huge darling of Free Republic, even meeting with them in formal settings so that he could pander to their insanity.

Yes, his behavior vis-a-vis impeachment was shameful but, if he wants to align himself with our side on constitutional issues, for whatever his voice is worth, I'll accept the help. If we can make it look like some of the most rabid Clinton-haters are against Bush, that's a good thing. Hey, even Coulter and Malkin are jumping ship on the cronyism issue.

Cracks in the much ballyhooed lockstep Republican ranks are beginning to show and, as our pal Martha would say, that's a good thing.

7. Barr is a Libertarian...nothing new here....
he is with the ACLU now working on civil liberties issues. Sounds like something right up his way. I recall he resoundly criticized Clinton for Echelon and roving wire taps too. Doesn't mean you will agree with him on other issues.
