What they will have to do before I send them another dime
This is what the Democratic Party will have to do before I send them another dime.

1. Recognize that we are in the fifth year of a constitutional crisis of the first magnitude.

2. Admit that we will get nowhere by trying to conduct business as usual.

3. Resolve to conduct the SECOND American Revolution by doing the following:

a. Recognize that you have more than half of the voters in the country and more than half of the people in the country ON YOUR SIDE and that most of these people are WAY OUT AHEAD of you on what needs to be done. Recognize that you have America lovers across the globe ON YOUR SIDE.

b. Recognize that the entire Congress (including you) is seriously compromised by the rotten system of campaign financing that has taken over the political process since the introduction of television advertising and political marketing, and that serious and immediate changes will have to be made to clean that system up. See below for some ideas.

c. Recognize that we do not have ANY time to waste in doing what has to be done.

d. Invoke Rule 26 and whatever other rule you have to invoke to bring the Congress to a halt while you negotiate with the remaining sane Republicans to pass some legislation. Wolf Blitz er will get it wrong again, but you can do without him--there are other ways of reaching the American people, and IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, even the corrupt media we have now will report it. Media heroes may spring up. But you will have to spring up first.
Together with the remaining sane Republicans, you have the majority: of the Congress, of the electorate, and of the people. You can pass legislation, you can undeclare a horrific war (which you did not have the guts to declare in the first place), you can rescind tax cuts that are the height of folly, you can reform campaign financing. You can do what needs to be done.

e. You can recognize that the normal constitutional transfer of executive power in this country was disrupted in 2000 and in 2004, and probably in a number of congressional races. You can decide and declare that all the Bush appointees to the Supreme Court will have to be reconfirmed. You can ask for the resignation of any justice who voted for Bush in Bush v. Gore. Stop wasting your time and energy worrying about Samuel Alito and worry about the decision in Bush v. Gore. Worry for all of us--it's your job.

(And for God's sake, make sure you are consulting with John Conyers before you do anything.)

f. Figure out how to install an entirely new administration in the White House without waiting for the next general election. The election system in the country is BROKEN. No one TRUSTS it, and it will take a little time to fix it. Impeaching this President is not enough; impeaching him and prosecuting five of his staff is NOT ENOUGH. All these impeachments get us is Dennis Hastert in the White House. NEGOTIATE a transition government between now and when we can have a free, fair and accurate election in this country.

--this is Part I of this rant. I'll be back tomorrow with Part II.
