Iran Bars CNN Over Translation of Remarks
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=1510680

<snip>
Iran said Monday it is barring CNN from working in Iran "until further notice" due to its mistranslation of comments made by the president in a recent news conference about the country's nuclear research.

In a speech Saturday, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defended Iran's right to continue nuclear research. State media have complained since the speech that CNN used the translation "nuclear weapons" instead of "nuclear technology."

The ban by the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry was read in a statement on state-run television.
"Due to mistranslation of the words of Ahmadinejad during his press conference, activities of the American CNN in Tehran are banned until further notice," the statement said.

CNN acknowledged the mistake.

2. like we don't have enough f**king problems without CNN
adding to the pile. The question becomes, is this the B**h slant on purpose and they got publicly caught?, and who got paid the big bucks for the 'major' fuck-up? IMHO it was no accident that weapons were used in place of technology. The network is too professional and the subject matter too important and delicate for it to have just been a mistake in translation.

4. Bingo
But I ask you, does anyone on DU still listen to and believe the likes of any corporate media outlet?

CNN NBC CBS ABC MSNBC Faux......they are ALL pro-Bush corporate news made to lull Americans into the next imperial adventure. CNN is the worst in my opinion because so many democrats still watch it...and believe!

Being up against the corporate media message is the NUMBER ONE issue stopping progressives from participating in our system.

5. Of course it was no accident.

Hopefully most of us will not be so naive to believe CNN.

The major news networks have been doing this for MONTHS, now. All you ever hear about is how Iran is "pursuing its NUCLEAR ambitions" or "its NUCLEAR agenda." It is never framed in the context of peaceful use unless they take a (MISQUOTED) sound bite from Ahmadinajad...

Can you say "back story?"

Does the phrase "smoking gun / mushroom cloud" mean anything to you?

3. Mixed feelings: I'm for freedom of the press, but opposed to state run
propaganda machines, and CNN these days seems closer to the latter than the former.
