I'd back Condi for the White House, says Laura Bush

Philip Sherwell in Washington
(Filed: 15/01/2006)

Laura Bush has revealed for the first time whom she would like to see replacing her husband in the White House: Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State.

"I'd love to see her run. She's terrific," Mrs Bush said during an interview in which she predicted that for the first time a woman would soon be elected president of the US.

The First Lady, a powerful behind-the-scenes figure in American politics, is the most influential voice to speak in favour of a presidential bid in 2008 by Ms Rice.

Her comments indicate that the Secretary of State would have backing at the highest level if she were persuaded to change her mind and run on the Republican ticket.

2. Yeah, well, you married George Bush, too.
Forgive me if I don't place much value in your discernment capability, Laura.

4. Remember she called the "Bin Laden Determined to Strike US"
a "historical document"...as if that was why they ignored it and that was a reasonable excuse?

She is a horrible woman. What's with the recent display of "Star Trek Dictator" clothing? Kinda scary, I think.

6. Sadly
She would gather more Republican support than the Democratic party supported Carol Moseley Braun in 2004.

11. I disagree
I can't think of a single woman of color that the Democratic Party would support to the extent that the Republican party would support Condi Rice. And that is sad.

13. Laura... hate to let you in on the secret, but... the trotting you out
to help W with his numbers isn't because you are *that* influential on the public's opinion... it is that his numbers keep sinking, and they are desperate. Just telling ya so you don't make a fool of yourself - assuming that your words of endorsement would make a whit of a dent in the systemic racism that is rampant in whole wide swaths of the GOP.
