Help!! Crying Game part II ... the Alito hearing
I have the thread about today's cartoon, and I know many of you have read it. But something happened a few hours ago, and I cannot access my site.

Will you please let me know if you can access the Alito cartoon on this link? I am not getting anything, and I need to know if there is a problem between me and the site, or at the site. I am not having any problem reaching any other site, but my avatar appears not be working and I can't get to the cartoon.

Can you? Thanks!

Neil

Ever since I found out my name (whether it is supposed to be me or someone else, I don't yet know)is on the NO FLY list now, I'm suspicious of things like this. I knew the Bushies don't have a sense of humor, but DAMN!

4. I don't want to be paranoid, but we've been getting a lot of hate mail
And there is an almost constant barrage of really hostile, angry, freeper types. I mean the same people writing over and over.

6. What it likely means...........
is that either something is wrong with the server or that someone has hacked the site.

8. A freeper or Bush hacking is always a possibility
Like I said, they have been unusually hostile this week, and a cyber attack from either rightwing vandals or operatives is possible. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

The Alito cartoon was a runaway hit, getting major traffic by noon today. I didn't check it for 6 hours, and when I checked it about 5:45 PM CST, it was gone.

10. Thanks. I just got off the phone with my partner in Canada. he sees it
So, we're still online with the cartoon, but some of us cannot see it.

I wonder what is going on.

Thanks for your help.

Given the level of hostility lately and the excesses of the right and Bush, I am getting a little paranoid.

15. Thanks FA! I appreciate everyone's help.
So, some people can see it and some can't connect at all.

Any idea how that can happen?

14. Seen in Wisconsin, Winnipeg, but not California, Toronto, Texas
So far that is the feedback.

A friend in Palm Springs says he sees it, though.

How can this be? Any computer or internet gurus want to venture a guess?

16. Update. It can be seen in parts of the US and Canada, but not in others.
Can anyone help a brother out?

At this point, I'm assuming it is some kind of glitch that affects certain regions or ISPs but not others. Any idea how that can be?

I located someone in Texas only 100 miles away, and he sees the cartoon fine. Two friends in Cali, 100 miles apart, one sees it, one doesn't.

Is it possible someone complained to an ISP or more than one ISP about today's Alito cartoon as ANNOYING under the new statute?

17. That's just plain odd..........
And I can't get my geek guru on the wire........won't be able to until sometime tomorrow. I can ask him then, but by then you will likely have an answer........

And for the record, neither Toronto nor Barrie can get it.

I don't know beans about the internetS.

Sounds like some kind of system problem, but why some locales and not others, even within a hundred miles in the same state?

I don't want to worry too much, but today at noon the Alito cartoon was drawing major traffic. We ran ten times as much traffic from midnight to noon as from noon until now, and that is unusal. Late afternoon and evening are heavy traffic times.

By estimation, it's cost us at least 3000-5000 pageviews, since the Alito cartoon was already the heaviest traffic cartoon of the past 3 weeks.

Things that make a paranoid old Dem activist go HMMMMMMMMM.

I sure appreciate your help!

23. Thanks, Innocent Smith. You don't see it, but Palm Springs does.
Winnipeg sees it, but Toronto doesn't.

maybe I should just let it go until tomorrow

Too bad, this cartoon was drawing major traffic until noon, and since then, only 10% of the traffic up til noon. THAT is very different from our experience, which is half by noon, half after noon. We should have exceeded 10,000 pageviews today, and now, we might make 6000.

26. Thanks. The crisis has passed. Don't know what it was.
I think one of internetS gurus was right. It was some kind of system failure or glitch that only affected certain parts of the US and Canada.

Thanks to everyone for helping me.

27. IT'S BACK NOW, FOLKS! SO NO NEED TO WORRY.
I felt like I needed to add one post to warn off others.

Probably just some system bug that will never be known.

I didn't really intend to talk about finding out my name is on the No Fly List, but it's got me troubled. If there were not so many opponents of the Bush administration appearing on it, so many other writers, journalists, and acitivists, I wouldn't be jumpy about it. Add the onslaught of attacks we have gotten in the form of emails lately, and it means there ARE a group of freeper types who are really, really upset about our cartoon.

They are creating false identities on the "internets" and pretending to be me, acting outrageous and saying outrageous things, with a link to my site, and claiming to be the author. They've hit sites like News Hounds and other places where google searches show there have been mentions of Neil Lisst cartoon. They'd be here if they could get past security and get away with it. This is the ONLY board I can post on without being stalked and spoofed.

It's an organized campaign, and while I appreciate the attention, you can understand why I'm gun-shy right now.
