Seeing Al Gore Speak 1/16-DC. What should I tell him?????
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 11:38 AM by autorank
Gore is speaking at Constitution Hall in DC. Get this, he's being introduced by Bob Bahr of Georgia. That's right, "the" Bob Bahr. There's an alliance forming.

Here's what I want to say:

Al, please run for president and please just drop every defense you have and run
a full tilt populist campaign. Name names, tell the truth, kick the other side around
all the time.

That's what I think he should here. Any suggestions?

(This input will be provided when, at the end of the speech, an aid comes to the microphone and says, "will autorank please come back stage, the Vice President would like to speak to you?")

12. The nasty guy from GA, former House member, paleo con....
Sorry about the spelling, I'm famous for it (in some circles;)

Yep, that guy. Rokken isn't it. I'd actualy like him on our side for a while. He's of the Paul Craig Roberts school...

The Grave Threat Is The Bush Administration
http://www.vdare.com/roberts/051127_bush.htm
By Paul Craig Roberts

According to news reports, at a US Naval Academy speech on Wednesday, President Bush will announce plans for withdrawing US troops from Iraq. It will be diverting to watch the propagandists at Fox "news" flip-flop with the White House line and explain that now is the time to cut and run after all.

A month ago the administration’s line was that cutting and running was the dastardly act of cowards and traitors who would abandon our troops and all they have fought for. A month ago senior US commanders in Iraq said that the US-trained new Iraqi army only had 700 troops who could operate independently of US support.

Now suddenly the new Iraq has the troops to do the job and America’s soldiers can come home. What this means is that Republican pollsters have made it clear that the Republicans cannot win next year’s congressional elections if the US is still mired in Iraq. The war is unpopular. A large majority of Americans do not believe the war was justified, and they no longer support it. Republicans have no prospect of rehabilitating Bush if he keeps the country bogged down in a pointless war.

5. I'm planning to be there too!
Got my tickets for my son and me today.

I was surprised by Barr's involvement, too, but I went to his site and see he's really speaking out for civil liberties. Strange bedfellows, but, hey, I guess take the support where you can get it, huh?

9. In Gore We Trust
Gore is the one person who cannot afford to talk about voting machines incessantly. The right-wing would just love that. It would play to their sterotype of Al Gore as a sore loser and a weirdo wonk.

But don't imagine for one second that he is not fully aware of all the issues involved, how he (and America) got screwed in 2000 and how Bush "won" Florida and Ohio again in 2004.

We need clean elections and clear policies that highlight the differences between Democrats and Republicans. It's not enough just to have one without the other. Gore understands this. In his public statements he is focusing on the policy side - the big issues like climate change and defending the Constitution (Gore spoke out against the PATRIOT act from the start!)

By all means tell Gore we want him to run for President. But don't expect him to give you a clear answer on that. Right now it is too early for him to be talking openly about 2008. He doesn't even have to make a decision about it for another 12 months, at least.

Wish I could be there on Monday ...

P.S. After you are done with that, please tell him I would like for him to run for his reelection in 2008. Also thank him for championing the internet, at the very least, this gives democracy a fighting chance.

despicable media distortions, & the demise of democracy.

The dispairing loss of "truth, justice, & the american wayyy."

Then call him Clark Kent and try to find him a phone booth and shove him into it.

You may also want to pick up the spandex in advance.

Oh and tell him of the "17 tricks or Weapons of Massive Reconstruction for Global Amelioration."

I just saw on another thread a reference to him declaring a constitutional crisis. Welp, Violet-Purple party declared one on 11/11. Now we need folks like him, people with credibility and government experience, to hold a constitutional convention. Draw in so many enlightened heavy hitters that the media cannot ignore it.

Get retirees from foreign corps of diplomats, military, media, state department, and intelligence orgs. all together. And younger disillusioned folks as well

"And let her rip."

14. OK, so far
1. Raise awareness about crappy voting machines, better yet "loss of confidence in elections" due to voting machines (a Republican line in VA in 2003, btw).

2. Take your new perspective, wrap it up and run like you really mean in for 2008.

3. We trust you!

4. Kick ass and take names.

I think I'll get him this link, on paper.

15. Don't ask, BEG: "help us, Al ... please ... help us!!!"
 Someone's gotta lead the charge in standing up to the GOP.

Dean, Feingold, Conyers and a few others are pulling most of the load, and it ain't fair.

This is exactly what I would say to him. At the same time, any populist will be quickly finished by the media and most likely in danger as well, unfortunately.

I was lucky enough to attend an Al Gore speech a little over a year ago. He's amazing. We need someone who will commit to cleaning up the mess for the next 8 years.
