McCullough: Jimmy Carter on the Wide Path to Hell

McCullough: Jimmy Carter on the Wide Path to Hell

To: National Desk

Contact: Kevin McCullough, Gary Villapiano, both of MuscleHead Revolution, 201-298-2039, kmc@wmca.com

NEW YORK, Jan. 6 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Syndicated Columnist for World Net Daily Kevin McCullough, heard daily on WMCA 570/970 in New York City, has accepted the challenge set forward by former President Jimmy Carter to debate the issues of Christianity and Fundamentalism.

"Former President Carter asserts that no one among fundamentalist evangelical America is willing to have a robust debate on the issues he raises in his interview. In that interview his own beliefs are filled with flaws in logic. I am aggressively seeking to challenge his assertion that we evangelicals are afraid to have our beliefs challenged. I've said so in my column today, and will say so on-air. We will be fair, but we dispute his characterization that we are afraid to be challenged."

Furthermore McCullough advanced the discussion by making the claim that Carter's actual beliefs as articulated in his current interview in GQ magazine actually send potential believers to eternal damnation.

"Former President Jimmy Carter's recent interview with GQ magazine left the impression that Mr. Carter had given the authoritative word on what Christianity should look like in America today. He couldn't have been more wrong - or absurd. Mr. Carter is an angry old man and - who if he takes his own advice on how to interpret the Bible or the basic understanding of Christianity - is himself on the wide road to Hell!"

8. but when one group claims to have 'god on its side'
and control millions of voters, and elect an idiot like Bush, then it goes from religious crazies to a country with tens of thousands of nukes run amok.

And that scares me

America and who is extremely concerned that his beloved Country has been hijacked by the Bush Administration.

On whether a true religous believer was more harmful to society than a person who said they believed but was only in it for the money. It's a moot point but I'd like to know anyway. Maybe some Sociologist is doing an experimnet and will publish any day now. NOT

7. Jimmy Carter is a fine man
and a wonderful Christian. He does not have to tell us he is a Christian-we can see it in his lifetime of Christ-like behavior. No man is perfect other than God. But, in my humble opinion, Mr. Carter would wipe the floor with Mr. McCullough. His latest book was wonderful and gave the reader a realistic assessment of how the so called "Christian Right" are destroying our country.

9. To bad he didn't comprehend the meaning of..
.."judge not lest he be judged". I've always thought that God was the only person who could condemn those to Hell.

He must of missed that part of the scripture in Bible class, eh?

President Carter devotes his life to helping the homeless; this guy writes a column. Ah, the irony.

10. This is a great method to get press...
I guess an ex-president/nobel prize winner not giving a crap who this piss-ant is delegitimizes his view on everything.

Kevin McNobody is going to have to debate his mirror or "Joe on line 2", because Jimmy isn't going to even acknowledge him.

17. You know, one doesn't attain a PHD in nuclear physics for
being a dummy. Carter is one of the most intellectually and emotionally balanced person in the world.
I don't think McCullough, who ever in the hell he is, would really have a good time debating Carter.

24. As a staunch Carter fan, I must set the record straight on PhD.
Jimmy Carter's BIO has no mention of a PhD. Carter attended Georgia Tech (my Alma Mater) and the US Naval Academy (BS). Carter was trained and served on nuclear submarines. In his later, august life, Carter has been the recipient of many honorary degrees. But he never even tried for an academic PhD that I can find.

28. As I do .. go to Google.
I think Carter was time-constrained. After his BS at the USNA in 1947, he trained and manned a nuclear submarine. He was active in the sub corps until his dad died in about 1954, at which time he mustered-out and returned to Plains, Ga. to run the family peanut farm.

Jimmy was farming when I met him in the mid-sixties during my campaigning for Georgia governor for an old Democrat, Ellis Arnold. I don't think Carter had darkened the schoolhouse door in that interim. I might be wrong ... but.

I campaigned (on the sly) for Carter when he ran for governor of Georgia in 1970. I was in Vietnam that Fall and I pushed Carter with my Georgia buddies (many had established Ga. residency because of the big Georgia training bases). It was pretty easy to do then, because the Democrats controlled the Congress. Things were not as tight.

21. McCullough wants to debate Carter on McCullough's radio show.
That is never a real debate. It's just like O'Reily, Hanni ty or Russert. It is never possible to present a good case under those circumstances since the host controls everything. For the debate to be valid, it must be in an impartial venue with a fair moderator. Carter knows this.

14. Well, Mr. McCullough, I've never heard of you and chances
are, neither has Mr. Carter. But, if you are really feeling up to it and send a true dignified challenge to Carter for a face to face public debate and if he feels you are of enough statue to be a worthy opponent, you just might get you wish. Carter is a dedicated, brilliant man who loves the human race and America. You might be biting off more than you can chew.

(Can anyone tell me how to get this message to Mr. McCullough?)

Edited on Mon Jan-09-06 06:59 PM by Jeffersons Ghost
Why not? Carter won that esteemed honor and joined the ranks of other truly great humanitarians in history. When one of the finest Christians that ever served America is challenged by a fool that only seeks fame I hope Mr. Carter heeds the wisdom of Solomon in Proverbs and does not waste words on a fool. I know he will.

someone doing that is pandering to the lowest common denominator and indulging in ersatz patriotism to separate mouth-breathers from their cash. Real patriots don't need props.

...you stole my icon! Anyway, whatever these wingnuts have to say about Jimmy is completely wrong. He is probably the finest, most honorable man to have ever served as president...except, perhaps, for the original GW -- George Washington, that is. That GW could have been king, but chose not to be.

A person who has worked his whole life to empower the downtrodden and improve the quality of life for people in the developing world. How many people have been saved by the works of this man thru his work with WHO and other NGO's to bring vaccines, healthcare infrastructure, water and sewer systems, etc to villages all over the developing world?
A person who strives for peace and to this day is the only american president to establish lasting peace between a muslim country (Egypt) and Israel. (For lurking freepers, your revisionist Faux history may not know that Egypt and the Israelis didn't really see eye to eye for about 30 years and 10,000's of lives.)

What do you think Jesus is sitting upstairs fretting about the most? That Sears employees might dare say "happy holidays" to some poor customer buying a tablesaw, or that a few billion people are starving and living in gross poverty while us SUV-drivin' enron & halliburton investin' murkins drive around listening to talk radio telling us how much we good patriotic murkins are for slappin the yellow ribbons on the back of our vehicles.

39. I would consider it a singular honor
>who if he takes his own advice on how to interpret the Bible or the basic understanding of Christianity - is himself on the wide road to Hell!"<

to join President Carter "in Hell". Somehow, I don't think he's going there.

I actually believe that President Carter can comprehend what he reads, unlike those who choose to diminish him. Obviously, Mr. McCullough has never read the New Testament, or he would know better than to make such an arrogant and ignorant statement about someone else's faith. I'll take Jimmy Carter's brand of Christianity above the legalistic form Mr. McCullough and his followers practice.

Julie
