George Allen leads in Missouri GOP “straw'’ poll
U.S. Sen. George Allen, R-Va., is raking up a surprisingly strong showing in an unscientific but still interesting straw poll conducted on the independent Republican Web site, RightMissouri.com. As of late Monday, Allen had amassed almost 42 percent of the votes registered on the site. Some activists say that Allen’s strong showing signals his support among conservatives — RightMissouri’s chief audience.

But coming in second is Nebraska U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel, who garnered 20 percent — despite his outspoken criticisms of some of President George W. Bush’s actions.

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice was running third.

Arguably the most well-known Republican in the bunch, renegade Arizona U.S. Sen. John McCain, was in the back of the pack. He had only 5 percent of the vote as of late Monday.

Even the nondescript choice, “Somebody Else,'’ was running ahead of McCain.

1. Missouri conservatives...
...are some of the most vile, hateful, backwards ass mother fuckers this side of a white supremist rally. Actually, many of them are on THAT side of white supremist rallies...

9. Back the fuck up friend, and chill the fuck out
Generalize much? Broad brush much? Or do you just not get the hell out of St. Louis much? I live in rural MidMo, amongst some of the most conservative people in this state, and you know what? If you put politics aside, these are some of the kindest, generous people you will ever meet. Same goes for southern Missouri, where I live for a number of years. And some of these conservatives are my family, and they too are quite kind and generous. Yes, this state does have its fair share of "vile, hateful, backwards ass mother fuckers this side of a white supremist rally", but to broad brush an entire population like that, and to imply that our state is the one of the worst is beyond the pale. Every state in this country, North and South have their share of conservative trogdolytes.

Sorry that you hate your state friend, perhaps if you dislike it so much you should leave.

3. MO is a key state
I want to see Allen lose in the primaries. He scares me. He is the most Bush-like.

I wonder if Bush will somehow "annoint" the one he wants to get elected? My guess is it would be this clown Allen.

4. Allen is a fundie who does not
wear it on his sleeve. "Bush-like" is a good description. He would carry all the red states against any Northeastern candidate (like Senator Clinton).

We have to nominate a Southerner to win. I like Fiengold, but Edwards or Warner fit the model of a Dem winner.

5. It's difficult to read that site; I look in the mirror and don't see a
particularly polarized person--but I guess it is so. Will this country ever become whole, or will we pluralistically self-destruct? I voted "somebody else", guess I'm a freeper now, too. Missouri conservatives are indeed vile thinkers and we have contributed horribly to the National scene as well.:nuke:

6. Very interesting...
but meaningless. Allen is Sean Hannity's choice, so that ought to clinch it. Personally, I'd like to see the Republicans nominate Newt Gingrich - what a bozo.

But, who said the Republican Right-Wing is smart? If they were they'd nominate McCain, but the right wing nuts consider him too liberal, so he doesn't stand a chance. That would leave the door open for someone like Allen. However, we may just see a classic fight for the heart and soul of the Republican Party between the far right and what's left of the moderates.

As for us....we need a moderate that can win - period. Hillary?

11. Hillary can't win a red state.
Any GOP nominee will be free and clear of the Bush smell. Condie Rice will never get through South Carolina alive.

We need someone who can safely carry 4-5 red states. Kerry proved that military experience does not matter as well.

Face it, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania are too unreliable at this point.

Senator Lincoln would win five Southern states, but she has no money.

13. 2006
If Republicans have a bad year at mid terms they will be looking for someone who can distance themself from Bush. So don't write off Mccain,or Giuliani just yet. And as for rice there Is no way
she could win the nomination.

15. Makes me wonder why so many think McCain is a moderate.
He is clearly a conservative.
