Interesting LTTE regarding Saddam and Kuwait - thoughts?
In response to Maureen Dowd's latest column, regarding the menace that is Dick Cheney, the following letter to the editor was printed in today's Seattle P-I. I wonder what DUers think about it.

<snip>
Maureen Dowd's Friday column on Vice President Dick Cheney and the blurring of Google's map of his house understated both the nature of Cheney's "evil" and the necessity of his taking extraordinary personal security measures.

Back in 1990, prior to Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, Saddam was demanding billions of dollars from Kuwait for stealing oil from Iraq's oil fields and also for having fended off Iran's theocracy on behalf of the entire region, in the protracted 10-year Iran-Iraq war. Both demands were ignored. It was left to the alternative press at that time to investigate the details of Saddam's demands. Kuwait had been sucking up oil from Iraq's side of the Rumalia oil field using slanted oil drilling equipment provided by Halliburton -- Cheney's company. Saddam was essentially baited into the 1990 invasion of Kuwait.

...In the 1991 Gulf War, Iraq's civilian infrastructure -- its bridges, water treatment plants and domestic industries -- were systematically destroyed. None of that was necessary to expel Iraqi forces from Kuwait. Cheney is up to his eyeballs in innocent Arab blood, which may be one of the reasons he is somewhat concerned about his personal safety.

1. It's asolutely true, and
do not forget that Saddam tried to surrender in the week before Operation Schlock and Awwwwww. Most of the mayhem in Iraq has been to boost the approval ratings for Repubs, nothing more.

2. During Persian Gulf a British friend of mine mentioned this
"Kuwait had been sucking up oil from Iraq's side of the Rumalia oil field using slanted oil drilling equipment"

Not his exact words but along the same lines--he said it was well known in Britain that the oil field was Iraq's not Kuwaits.

At that time I knew nothing about politics or the evil bush empire.

3. Cheney's house in Wyoming is blurry because
he can't remember what it looked like . . .

Since he had spent all of his non-Washington DC years in Texas - until three days before being named "Vice Presidential" candidate . . .

4. yes and it is unconstitutional to have 2 people as candidates
from the same state on the ticket as Pres and VP. Maybe we can just nullify the last 5 years.

5. It's going to take a long time to
clean up the mess that Bush and the Rubber-Stamp Republicans made . . .

8. It's not his Wyoming house, from my understanding
From Dowd's column:
<snip>
The vice president, who believes in unwarranted, unlimited snooping, is so pathologically secretive that if you use Google Earth’s database to see his official residence, the view is scrambled and obscured. You can view satellite photos of the White House, the Pentagon and the Capitol — but not of the Lord of the Underworld’s lair.

That would make it the Naval Observatory, no? Plus i have read that he and Lynne have purchased a new mansion in Maryland, and that it has a huge no-flyover space, very rare.

6. Not news to most here. Kuwait was slant drilling. And Bush I didn't
seem to want to stop Saddam from going after them until after Iraq invaded Kuwait.

10. And...didn't Bush1 administration tell SH they wouldn't interfere?
If he decided to attack Kuwait and destroy the wells which they thought were slant drilling into Iraq. Nano seconds later Bush decided to start up the Gulf War.

Bush Crime Family at their best.....
