In the past couple days, I've seen more talk in this forum about 2008 than about 2006. I find that somewhat disturbing, considering the fact that we just rang in an election year.
2008 will be an extremely important election for our nation. But what about 2006? The Wrong Wing has extremists running for election and re-election. We must make sure that the Democrats can stand toe-to-toe against those who hate America. This is our opportunity to knock off Santorum, DeLay, and Ah-nuld. Wouldn't it be amazing if, on November 8 (the day after the election), the Wrong Wing descends into chaos due to such embarrassing defeats?
"But ih8thegop, some might say, Casey is kicking Santorum's behind in Pennsylvania. It's a given that he will beat Santorum!" The first part of that statement is true, but the second isn't. Remember, we still have ten months from this Saturday until the election, during which time things can change dramatically. Ten months. To give you an idea of how long that is, consider the fact that Pope John Paul II was still around ten months ago.
On the other hand, 34 months remain until November 2008. 34 months ago, the war had not yet been launched. We aren’t even halfway between the 2004 primary cycle and the 2008 cycle. After this fall’s elections, we will have all of 2007 to listen to, ponder, and argue over our party’s candidates.
But we have just ten months to do our part for our party and our country and world. Be it advocating election reform (so that what’s meant to happen in November does happen in November), writing letters to the editor, signing nominating petitions, telling others about the importance of the election, contributing money to the campaigns, etc., we all need to do something to help our party win this fall.
“But, ih8thegop, the Democratic Party isn’t deserving of my support because...” Trust me, there are times when some Democrats make me ask, “WTF are they thinking?” But as hard as it is (even for me), we must understand that the Democratic Party is made up of human beings and is thus not perfect. Getting angry when things go wrong can be a good thing. Getting carried away by that anger isn’t.
I have demonstrated how long AND how short ten months can be ;-) But I hope everyone realizes the importance of this election, and that it's up to us to save our country. So...
HAPPY ELECTION YEAR! :toast:
