This case needs to go to trial...

Lobbyist Is Given Deadline to Take Deal or Go to Trial

By ANNE E. KORNBLUT
Published: December 31, 2005

WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 - The indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff must decide by Tuesday whether he will accept a plea or stand trial on fraud charges in a Florida case, a judge in Federal District Court told Mr. Abramoff's lawyers and prosecutors in a court hearing on Friday.

<snip>

If no agreement is reached, Mr. Abramoff will stand trial in Miami on Jan. 9.

+++++++++++

If J.A. doesn't go to trial, we will never know exactly how far his tentacles extended. Obviously, it will be very helpful to those he shields. It will also be interesting to see whether there is a deal involving his testimony against other up- and down-stream participants in his illegal activities.

1. The entire republican party would be in jeopardy if this case went to
trial. That is, if it was tried by an honest, impartial prosecutor.

3. The Miami trial is the murder. Whole separate deal, I thought.
If he pleads out, it will only be because he's giving evidence which means lots and lots of OTHER trials.

White collar guys plead out. Then they get to spend the next several years being escorted from jury to jury as they rat out everyone and everything they know.
