I was even kind of hopeful there for a while.

But my outlook is changing. I am thinking things in the Middle East are starting to look really bad. Like that war may have been the worst possible thing that could have happened. It shifted the balance to the religious extremists favor.

1. Welcome to DU, Leftyladyfrommo....Most DUers, I believe
have held this opinion since the war began. Unfortunately, the MSM has not educated the general public on much of anything in terms of the culture and nature of the issues impacting the ME, and clearly, the Bush* admin never bothered to educate itself. SOme of us have worked/lived in ME. What is happening was truly predictable, unfortunately.

2. It could end so badly that
there is no Iraq when the dust settles, just West Iran and Kurdistan (or Turkey). Iraq is a fake country that was only held together by the fact that it was under the control of dictators for much of its history. I don't think it can survive democracy - too many ethnic and tribal rivalries.

4. Yea, that's what I'm thinking
This "country" will just cease to exist.

I wonder what will happen to Afghanistan if Iraq splits up. They seem to be ruled by a bunch of militias.

8. That Might Not Be A Bad Thing
Political reorganization, as long as the governed have a say in the matter, is appropriate and inevitable.

A bad thing would be a nuclear incident, a genocide, depleted uranium contamination, kangaroo courts, among other BushCo dirty tricks.

3. Yes it's already cost us many civil liberties and crushed us with debt
Forced decisions to forgo important domestic initiatives, etc.

No matter what happens in Iraq, the US has lost BIG and it will take most of a generation to fix the problems it's made INSIDE our borders.

5. Well, there's that, too.
I just can't believe that Bush actually started out with a surplus. And in 4 years he has managed to completely sell our soul to the Chinese.

He did the same thing to Texas.

6. Bush's Iraq War is the biggest foreign policy blunder in US history.
We are only beginning to see the tragic consequences of this terrible mistake. In fact, it's such a huge mistake, I almost think you could call it a crime. Especially when you observe the breathtaking dishonesty with which this misguided war was "sold" to America.

Bush's legacy is one of unbroken failure, with Iraq as the very worst of the many, many awful misjudgments he has made.

You're doing a heckuva job, Georgie!

9. Well, maybe not.
Maybe we will get lucky and he will resign. As long as Cheney resigns with him.

Then, who do we get? Frist? There's another really honest and upstanding guy?

That is the trouble with impeachment - if they were found guilty. Who would be stuck with then. It is all just an awful nest of vipers.

11. It started badly.
It continued badly.

I don't see any "end" that is not bad. I don't see any end to conflict in the middle east at all. Our presence in Iraq can end; today would be 3 years too late for me. And yes, it will end badly. There is no good end to having spent that many lives.

13. Well, lets see
The 3 main factions; Sunni, Shia, and Kurd, all have infiltrated loyal militiamen into the Iraqi Army. If one of those factions makes a move for independence, the Army collapses and civil war begins outright. Both the Sunnis and the Kurds have good reasons to do this, seeing how they will be getting a very short stick in the election process.

If you think it's bad now, just wait another month or so...

16. Going to?
It started bad, its playing out bad, and will end bad. Some think its already ended --- and its bad. BushCo has managed to destroy/wreak havoc in both Iraq and the United States.

17. exit, with choppers, like Vietnam, but with sand...
I predicted a total failure before Dimbulb and the Candles ever went in to Iraq. It will be similar to our disaster in Vietnam, only worse in many ways.
