...four years have passed. My country, once a beacon to the world and a bastion of civil rights has become a pariah. As we face the New Year, let us realize that this fall children will enter kindergarten who were born after a supposed attack.While they can never remember the attack, they will at best grow up watching responsible adults attempting to roll back attacks on constitutional rights throughout their childhood and growing to adulthood-and that is only if Bush is defeated.And in this case the sad part is this-they will think that these promises and guarantees are a bold new wave of social engineering-not something guaranteed for over 200 years, right up until their births.

I fear that the current generation will have no idea of the liberties they lost. They are completely unaware of what liberties are (apart from a word in the maligned acronym ACLU) or what freedom entails. To them, freedom means file sharing or the ability to download your own personal ring tone.
