Film focuses on fight for Maine river
Maine Public Broadcasting Network will air the documentary, "Homeland: Four Portraits of Native Action" as part of its New Year's Day programming.

The documentary film, which screened at the Maine International Film Festival in July, follows leaders from four American Indian communities as they fight to preserve their lands.

A large portion of the film focuses on the work of former Penobscot Chief Barry Dana of Maine, said Lou Morin, marketing and communications manager for MPBN.

Dana has led a fight against the state government and paper companies in his attempt to preserve the Penobscot River, which the Penobscot tribe has depended on for 10,000 years.

"All Mainers have a stake in the Penobscot River," said Morin. "As a broadcast network, we are committed to these kinds of shows, one that depicts Maine people working to improve the lives of other Maine people."
