It’s my party (Democratic)
Edited on Mon Dec-26-05 10:25 PM by ProSense
And I’ll brag if I want to. This was a bad year for Bush and the GOP and a very good year for the Democrats:

Social Security – Smacked down Bush and his cabal as they desperately fanned out across the country trying to sell a bad idea.
Result: seeing Santorum squirm when he caught on that the idea wasn’t flying. Best result: watching Santorum's decline in the polls

Schiavo – The wingnuts fought the law and the law won.
Result: watching the wingnuts attack Jeb Bush.
Best result: watching Dr. “go to the videotape” Frist squirm in the senate trying to get his credibility back.

Election 2005 -- Wins across the country.
Result: the Republicans are on notice
Best result: Watching Republicans trying to distance themselves from scandal

Troop withdrawal from Iraq – Forced Bush to forcefully stake out his failed stay the course position.
Result: Exposed the Republicans rubberstamp of that failed policy and forced them to a vote calling on Bush to define an effective strategy.
Best result: watching Rumsfeld running around blurting out tongue twisters about bringing the troops home early next year, but not immediately and without a timetable.

Delay's House of Scandal -- the DCCC never let up and did an excellent job connecting the crooks.
Result: Republicans froze like deer in the headlights
Best result: Fitzgerald is behind the wheel

Secret Prison’s – Pressuring the Bush administration to release information. Result: forced the administration into a defensive position
Best result: Kerry’s amendment.

Torture – Holding the Bush administration accountable for their inhumane policy.
Result: McCain had to publicly go against Bush
Best result: watching Cheney caught in lie after lie during interviews.

Patriot Act – unified to block extension in light of Bush’s constant abuse of power.
Result: Frist had to keep voting to uphold the Democratic-led filibuster.
Best result: Bush didn’t get his Christmas present and resorted to accusing the Democrats of aiding the enemy by standing up for American civil liberties.

ANWR – Save ANWR for the grubby hands of oil executives.
Result: exposed Republican hypocrisy in terms of the dirty tactics used to attach ANWR to the defense bill.
Best result: watching Stevens “goodbye cruel world” whiny drama on the Senate floor.

Censure -- Conyers began the process that could ultimately lead to impeachment of both Bush and Cheney
Result: Bush will continue to screw up and 2006 doesn't look any better
Best result: Bush is screwed

5. Very nice list!
I especially enjoyed Stevens telling the Senators that he would "go to every state and tell them what you've done".

9. Great post!
You forgot one thing though... watching Tom Delay on the news calling Fitzgeralds investigation of him "a witch hunt and an abuse of power"... OMG, I wish I could have slapped him thru the television! How much did the Republicans spend on Kenneth Starr trying to impeach Clinton for lying about an extramarital affair?? This only made him a bad husband, NOT a bad President! None of our troops DIED over Clinton's lie. He may have gotten some strange in the Oval Office, but the economy was good, everyone was working and gas was below a buck a gallon! It is time for the American public to stand up and scream in outrage and be heard! How many more lives have to be lost for Bush's lies?? What makes this clown untouchable and above the law? We need to send a message to this monkey in a man suit and let him know that his time is about up. I urge ALL Democrats, Libertarians, Independents, EVERYONE to visit http://www.offrampbums.com and check out the Bush Bum Kit and send one to Washington. I have been working on a few alternative signs for this kit also. One reads "Looking for WMD's - Please Help!", another reads "Where's Osama?? Please Help!", and one that reads "I LIED, TROOPS DIED, SHOOT ME PLEASE!". I will also custom make a sign with any slogan you want on it. We need to flood the White House with these packages and send a strong message to Bush. I would like to personally thank everyone who has already visited my site and placed an order. I am willing to donate 25% of all profits from the Bush Bum Kit to Democratic candidates for local, state and federal offices. Your purchases also help support me, a single father with 2 kids who recently became disabled due to a construction accident (broken neck, 2 major neck surgeries in the last year, and thankful to God to still be able to walk) and keeps me being a productive citizen and off the welfare and SSI lists. Thank you in advance for your support and God Bless!

14. A very good year
I just worry that we peaked too soon and all this will fade from public memory by the time the 2006 elections come round.

15. A very good year, comparatively.
If what existed before wasn't soo horribly bad, this would have been a so-so year.

But I'll take what good news I can.

Thanks for the recap.

16. Much work to be done. Thanks for reminding us of work already done.
Nothing helps you climb a mountain more than looking back and seeing how far you've climbed already. We need to vigorously publicize Dem victories, or they'll never get mention in the Money$treamMedia. People sitting at home watching network crap and ask "What can you do?" need to hear that there is plenty that can be done. Nothing proves that more than listing that which HAS been done.
