Network Aims to Help Harassed Campus Conservatives
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,179736,00.html

Though Christopher Flickinger calls himself "dean" and poses in parodistic photos waving a small American flag and looking stern, he says he's never been more serious about eliminating what he claims is pervasive anti-conservatism on college campuses today.

"When I was on campus, I had no help," the recent Ohio State University graduate told FOXNews.com. "I was harassed, intimidated, shouted down."

Flickinger, schooled in broadcast journalism, said he wants to provide the support he never had as a lonely conservative in college. That's why in November he launched the Network of College Conservatives to act in part as "a link for these conservative students, to let them know they are not alone."

Running the Web site solo from his Pittsburgh, Pa., home, Flickinger said he wants the network to be much more than a shoulder to cry on. Conservative students are still easy targets of liberal intimidation, he claims, but more than ever, they have a growing body of legal and activist support groups to turn to — and he wants his organization to be top among those resources.

:nopity: Awww, poor little harassed Repukes. This guy is an asshat koolaid drinker. Our "liberal" paper, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette published this idiot's editorial ripping people for keeping their Kerry/Edwards stickers on their car.

http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?id=6780

For the love of God, please remove those "Kerry/Edwards" bumper stickers from your cars and trucks! In case you didn't get the memo, your side lost! It's like you're walking around with a big "L" on your forehead -- Loser!

I'm not sure why you still have that sticker on your bumper. Maybe it's been too cold outside for you to remove it. Maybe your post-election depression is so deep you can't bring yourself to take it off. Maybe you're living in denial. Maybe you've been too busy spreading lies and rumors about the future of Social Security and judicial nominations that you haven't had enough time to get it off your vehicle.

Or maybe it's even worse than I thought. Maybe you've tried, you've scrubbed, you've scratched, you've pulled and it just won't come off. It's stuck to the back of your Volvo or Volkswagen like a bloodthirsty parasite. But, then again, we are talking about John Kerry and John Edwards, two men who would have acted like ravaging bloodsuckers on the back of every U.S. citizen had they been elected.

Honestly, for your own self-dignity, it's time to remove the Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers.

Of course he's one of the yellow chickenhawks.

As we expected, we find the recruiter of fine young conservative minds, "Dean" Christopher Flickinger, is a card-carrying member of the Yellow Elephant brigade. Here's his ballsy excuse for not stepping up to serve and take an IED for his Dear Leader, from the Conservatives On Campus web site (no, I'm not linking to him - I've given him plenty of hits already), in response to some "hate mail."

I'm not in Iraq because I don't have to be in Iraq. We have brave men and women who volunteer and dedicate their lives to fighting for our country so those of us back here at home may carry on with our livelihoods in comfort and security. But, make no mistake, Americans who cherish freedom and liberty will not hesitate to defend the values they hold dear.

And he actually digs in deeper, in a column for Human Events. Read this godawful bullsh*t:

The loss of 2,000 lives is tragic. In fact, the loss of even one life is heartbreaking. But, to pick some sort of magical "death toll number" as to when America should tuck its tail between its legs and run is down right un-American! They want to know, "How many more?" The answer is: "As many as it takes." The price of 2,000 lives over a two and a half year period - for the cause of freedom - is small compared to what our forefathers paid.

1. The bad hair is a giveaway
Bad hair usually equals at least GOP. Really bad hair = fundamentalist politician.

But I guess the conservatives need to have their say, too. I'm glad we can come here and make fun of it.

3. What is it with these little whiners and their persecution complex?
They hold all 3 branches of government and control the media, is it persecution when someone speaks the truth to them? Do they require 100% lockstep conformity to feel safe? Is it because they know damned full well their ideas don't work and they're terrified they're going to start to be blamed for it? Just what the hell is their problem?

It seems to me this is a great weakness to exploit, this extreme paranoia on the right.

5. College Conservatives Usually Ask For It
The only times I've seen conservatives get shouted down or maligned have been due to their extreme comments or actions. I'm all for freedom of speech but I myself expect to be countered if I say something that's wrong or crazy. One instance was a student in a Biology class that first commented on how the Chinese were taking over because the class before ours is filled with them. He doesn't know any of the people in the class just assumed that they weren't American. Then he commented on how we need to go to war with Saudi Arabia and Iraq so we can take over their oil (this conversation happened after 9-11 but before the Iraq War). So myself and others in the class decided to take him to task for his comments.

Another instance was a group of conservative fundies who decided to take a bull horn and yell at students as they walked by. They would yell political and religious slogans at those passing by. Most people ignored them which I think made them angry so they decided to up the ante to insults. As one girl walked by they started to comment on her outfit which they felt was too reveling causing her to stop to debate. As this was going on other students stopped to watch and also add their two cents. Campus police show up and a crowd starts to form. Suddenly a kid grabs one of the fundie students bibles causing them to chase after him. The crowd in turn chased after the fundies and then the cops chased after the crowd, fundies, and the student with the bible.

If someone told me to take off my Kerry Edwards sticker I would probably tell him where to stick his Bush.

9. That's disgusting
and it's also called sexual harassment (yelling at the girl about her "too revealing" outfit). I would've called the real police, not just the campus rent-a-cops.

6. There's a big push for this lately
Here's some spew from David Davenport in the SF Chronicle today:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/12/26/EDGQIF5HRI1.DTL

snip

So what is to be done to promote greater intellectual diversity on campuses? It won't be easy, given that tenure protects professors' jobs and academic freedom is used to defend almost whatever they choose to say. Still, there is plenty that can be done to broaden the range of ideas on campus.

Trustees and administrators should undertake a study of the diversity of thought on their own campuses. One way to balance what is presented in the classroom is to invite a greater diversity of outside speakers, or part-time adjunct faculty. Deans should look at the syllabus for courses to see if a range of ideas is presented in the readings and engage faculty on the issue. It doesn't violate academic freedom to have a conversation about a professor's reading list. As one of my bosses correctly said to me, "You have academic freedom to write what you want and I have freedom to say what I want about what you write." Intellectual diversity should be part of student course evaluations, and should be reviewed at the highest levels.

11. Douche. Why's he wagging his finger?
You could power your house for a year off the arrogance running around in a Young Republican's head.

"Oh my G*d! People did not agree with everything I had to say!"

:nopity:

Go chase yourself, asshole.
