And then there is Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA)
Quote of the week

"(I)f a nuclear weapon goes off in Washington, D.C., or New York or Los Angeles, it'll burn the Constitution as it does. So I'm very happy we have a president that's going to wiretap people's communication with people overseas to make sure that they're not plotting to blow up one of our cities."

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher

R-Huntington Beach, when asked on CNN if there might be constitutional issues with current electronic eavesdropping practices

1. Let me get this straight ...
... we need to wiretap charitable organizations and pro-peace organizations to prevent terrorists from nuking Washington DC -- okay, yeah, sure. I get it -- no, really, I do -- it all makes perfect sense to me now ...

7. That's it, but only in conjunction with my magic stone
Actually, it's magic stones, plural. And for the low, low bargain price of only $49.95 plus shipping and handling, you too can own a magic stone which will keep terrorist attacks far, far away from you.* Once I discovered the magic stones and became convinced of their power,** I knew that I had to tell everyone about them! So rush your certified check or money order today!

*May not work against anthrax, theft of large quantities of C-4, suburban snipers, or natural disasters which wipe out more people and homes than any terrorist attack could possibly do. But as long as you don't call something "terrorist," it isn't!

**The stones have the incredible power to fill the hole in my bank account, and how a fool and his money ever got together in the first place isn't really my concern.

2. here is the local joke/story about rohrbacher...
he is a surfer (true). One day he went surfing and almost drowned. but the ocean spit him back up because he was too toxic
to keep.

The story was better developed as a joke but I cannot recall exactly how it went, so you just get the punch line here :-)

3. We can only hope Abramoff takes him down as well
http://www.bizforward.com/wdc/issues/2002-11/government/abramoff/
“The DeLay thing is played up a lot in terms of our relationship. The fact is when I pitch a client, I never mention Tom DeLay. I never say I know Tom DeLay.” Abramoff says he’s just as close to other Republicans, like Reps. Roy Blunt (MO), Christopher Cox (CA), John Doolittle (CA), Phil Crane (IL) and Dana Rohrabacher (CA).

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A32633-2004Nov7.html
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), said Abramoff convinced him that "it was the conservatives who would be the saviors of the Indians by providing an environment where they could be self-sufficient and run their own affairs instead of being like inner-city welfare recipients."

http://www.jacknewfield.com/sun/indianGaming.pdf
Scanlon’s company donated more than $500,000 to the Republican Governor’s Association in 2002,but only disclosed this year. This was all money tribes had paid him. The Saginaw Chippewas donated $l8,000 to Rep. DeLay’s PAC, Americans for a Republican Majority, and $25,000 to Grover Norquist’s anti-tax group. Abramoff has personally contributed to 30 Republican senators, PACs, and congressmen, including senators Arlen Specter, Christopher Bond, John Ensign, Jim Bunning, Charles Grassley, and Richard Shelby; Congressmen Tom DeLay, Ernest Istook, Richard Pombo, Doug Ose, and Dana Rohrabacher; and DeLay’s Americans for a Republican Majority PAC.

4. I think most terrorists realize the US is imploding on itself--no need for
another 9/11. We're doing just fine butchering ourselves.

5. Strawman -- this isn't about whether or not we should wiretap.
It's about wiretapping without a warrant, a warrant that they can get afterwards, if necessary.

8. Caught a new excuse this morning on MSNBC - a FBI employee
was spouting that it has been "misreported" that you can get a wire tap immediately. That the 72 hour defense is false. He said (sorry, didn't get his name as I was yelling "underpolite" words in his direction) said that you still had to get permission from the court by telephone. With a judge listening to your argument, asking questions and then granting permission this could take up to 30 minutes. He even related that in one case they came in on the tail in of a conversation, due to the delay in permission by a half an hour, and caught plans for a bombing but they didn't get the entire message so they were left wondering who was involved, etc. Of course, he made this statement without a single way to check out this nonsense to see if it is true. I would never think that he, as a government employee, would ever lie to us about something like this, would I? :sarcasm:

Just watch, I'm betting the talking heads on the news channels this week will use that theme over and over as their excuse to allow Cucklenuts unlimited power. That is going to be one of the talking points issued from the RNC. It takes a half an hour to get phone permission and we are going to get a nuclear bomb in DC (New York/Chicago/LA - fill in the blank for the audience) if we wait 30 minutes to follow the law. Any takers?

11. So, where was this bombing he was talking about
Edited on Mon Dec-26-05 02:09 PM by formercia
or is this another bullshit story someone pulled out of their ass? It was probably something like some kid talking with a friend about putting an M-80 in a neighbor's mailbox.

9. So if the original copy of the Constitution burns up, does that mean
we don't have a Constitution any more? Is that what that idiot is trying to say?
