Democrats maintain call for Iraq withdrawal timetable
Fri Dec 23,12:34 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Two Democratic lawmakers welcomed the US administration's announcement that about 7,000 US troops will be pulled from Iraq but maintained demands for a timetable for full troop withdrawal.

"I am pleased to hear that some American families will be reunited with their brave sons, daughters, fathers and mothers in the coming weeks as the Bush administration brings troops home from Iraq after nearly three years of war," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid said in a statement.

Congressman John Murtha, a decorated Vietnam War veteran who shook the establishment recently by calling for a full troop withdrawal from Iraq, said Friday's announcement fell short of his expectations.

"That's not what I had in mind," he said in a statement. "Our logistics convoys remain vulnerable and the US troops remain the targets.

"Our presence in Iraq continues to unify the insurgents against the US forces," he added. "We have to give the Iraqis a timetable to take charge of their own destiny."

1. Pssst....we're not leaving
Murtha's in fantasy land if he really thinks we'll be gone by the mid-term elections. We're not leaving that country 'til every drop of oil's sucked dry and Israel is safe beyond any reasonable expectation. They'll pull a Nixon and make it look like we're withdrawing, and they'll do it in a version of showmanship that will be high art before the elections, "proving" that all's well and that we're bringing the troops home, but we're NOT LEAVING.

The fact that so many people on the right and left think we're actually going to withdraw doesn't mean shit. Vast majorities have been ridiculously wrong before, and they will be again.

This is nuts.

3. Damn, the mediawhores
are making a big deal out of this and if i recall correctly 2 weeks prior they were announcing this troop reduction was already in place... It never ceases to amaze me how the mediawhores continue to be hyper positive whenever it revolves around the bushit administration.... You can see why the polls numbers have increased ever so slightly. There for 2 to 3 weeks prior to this lastest CNN poll there was hardly any negative reporting about bushit....Even though one of the major stories was the illegal use of wiretaps, but leave it to our mediawhores to play over and over again bushit saying after 911 he would do all he could to protect us.....

W=WORST PRESIDENT EVER......

2. Isn't this pretty much a shell game anyway?
Didn't they up the number of troops by 20,000 before the election and plan to bring them home after anyway?
