Abramoff mostly paid Republicans
2005/12/22
By Jonathan D. Salant and Kristin Jensen WASHINGTON, Bloomberg

U.S. President George W. Bush calls indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff "an equal money dispenser" who helped politicians of both parties. Campaign donation records show Republicans were a lot more equal than Democrats.

Between 2001 and 2004, Abramoff gave more than US$127,000 to Republican candidates and committees and nothing to Democrats, federal records show. At the same time, his Indian clients were the only ones among the top 10 tribal donors in the U.S. to donate more money to Republicans than Democrats.

Bush's comment about Abramoff in a Dec. 14 Fox News interview was aimed at countering Democratic accusations that Republicans have brought a "culture of corruption" to Washington. Even so, the numbers show that "Abramoff's big connections were with the Republicans," said Larry Noble, the former top lawyer for the Federal Election Commission, who directs the Washington-based Center for Responsive Politics.

"It is somewhat unusual in that most lobbyists try to work with both Republicans and Democrats, but we're already seeing that Jack Abramoff doesn't seem to be a usual lobbyist," Noble said.

Repukes are trying to get us to believe that Democrats are just as guilty as they are in the Abramoff scandal. As the full text of this article shows, that is a plain lie. Disturbingly, many in the corporate news media are falling for this, and work too hard to find a Democrat to include in articles on the subject, in the interest of being 'fair'

Abramoff is just now entering into a plea agreement, and some speculate that he might start squealing like a pig within the next two weeks or so. Republicans are sweating out this development of what is, in fact, a Republican scandal.

1. If Abramoff names names
the MSM will have to at least say them-maybe they won't mention what party they are affiliated with.

3. Does Fux count as MSM?
They won't even cover it except maybe a n opinion that Abramoff is being persecuted for helping downtrodden Indian tribes.

2. I know a lot of
people here are not too crazy about the DCCC but I thought this was appropriate...

Eleven years ago today, House Republicans and their candidates stood on the steps of the United States Capitol and signed their Contract with America. They took over the Congress on a pledge to "restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives," and to end a government that they said had gotten "too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money."

Instead of delivering on those promises, this Republican Congress has delivered a record of failures on the issues that matter most to American families, such as soaring gas prices, prescription drug costs and Iraq. They have failed the American people, they have broken their promises, and they have breached their contract. At the time,Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay said "If we break this contract, throw us out." That time has come.

5. Isn't the real issue though "money for influence?" I mean just because
a guy gives money to a pol is not in and of its self a scandal. The scandal comes when the receipt of that money leads to influence.

11. Bribes and fraud
MSgt213,

In this case we're taling about illegal bribes, which I consider an extreme form of "money for influence".

Lobbyist prepares to embarrass Bush
December 22, 2005
From Tim Reid in Washington

<snip>

Jack Abramoff, a former lobbyist with extensive financial ties to numerous politicians, is prepared to co-operate with prosecutors and provide information on at least six members of Congress. Most, if not all, are Republican.

The Abramoff investigation, which has been expanding for nearly two years, has been viewed as a timebomb under the Republican Party. The Justice Department is also believed to be looking at the role played by government officials in Mr Abramoff’s dealings.

The department has been investigating allegations that Mr Abramoff and associates bribed politicians with money, gifts, expensive meals and holidays in exchange for legislative action favourable to Mr Abramoff’s clients. Although the Republican Party has been hit by a series of scandals, including the indictments of Lewis Libby, Vice-President Cheney’s former chief of staff, and Tom DeLay, the former House leader, it is the Abramoff affair that has made Republicans most nervous.

Michael Scanlon, a business partner of Mr Abramoff and former aide to Mr DeLay, pleaded guilty this month to conspiring to bribe public officials and defraud several Native American tribes. Court papers in Mr Scanlon’s plea say that he and Mr Abramoff "provided a stream of things of value to public officials in exchange for a series of official acts".

6. Another Mission Accomplished for bush
The lemmings have their next set of talking points - abramoff, an equal opportunity lobbyist giving to republicans and DEMOCRATS. Facts are irrelevant.

The conservative logic and value system is a sight to behold. Obviously its okay for their heros to commit crimes because maybe someone else did?!?

8. not nearly an even playing field at all
Anything Dems get from lobbyists in general is much less than what Republicans do. Someone can buy some influence from some Dems, but the whole Republican Party is virtually bought and paid for.

..... "them" to drop it. Rove and this group of thugs are not concerned in the
slightest by not telling the truth, it is standard operating procedure for them.

John Kerry = 1 Silver Star, 1 Bronze Star, & 3 purple hearts = swift boats, "he shot a boy in the back and helped the enemy"

Gov Blanco of LA = did the paperwork to federalize the hurricane response = put it in bush's lap = "state & locals fault"

9/11 = worst terrorist attack in US history & bush not paying attention to the 8/6/01 PDB = we attack Iraq.

A company called "Creative Response Concepts," job is to plant stories and talking points like this lie 24/7.
