SENATOR Boxer rocks AGAIN! Impeachment!!
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 06:25 PM by elizm
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has become the first in the Senate to raise consideration of impeachment of President George W. Bush

Washington, D.C.– U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today asked four presidential scholars for their opinion on former White House Counsel John Dean’s statement that President Bush admitted to an “impeachable offense” when he said he authorized the National Security Agency to spy on Americans without getting a warrant from a judge.

6. Senate?
Doesn't the call for impeachment have to come from the House?

13. Um....I think the senate sits as a jury
and the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court presides (which is not exactly judging).

I say that having watched the last 2 attempts to impeach and one senate trial.

21. Right. The House indicts. The Senate tries and convicts.
That's why Nixon resigned - he lost his Senate support after the Supreme Court ruled against him in U.S. vs. Nixon and upheld the court order forcing him to release more tapes - which included the "smoking gun" tape where Nixon ordered the CIA to interfere with and halt (on false pretenses) the FBI's investigation into the Watergate crimes (because the FBI had just discovered laundered money in a Mexico bank which had paid Liddy for the break-in, and was about to discover that the laundered money came from Nixon's campaign committee, whose acronym, aptly enough, was CREEP).

10. It doesn't hurt, though, for numbers of people, including
senators, to talk about impeachment.

Me, I love to hear 'em say it.

Lewis Calls For Bush Impeachment

Provided By: The Associated Press
Last Modified: 12/19/2005 5:22:08 PM

ATLANTA (AP) -- U.S. Representative John Lewis said in a radio interview on Monday that President Bush should be impeached if he broke the law in authorizing spying on Americans.

The Democratic congressman from Georgia told WAOK-AM that he would sign a bill of impeachment if one was drawn up and that the House of Representatives should consider such a move.

Lewis is among several Democrats who have voiced discontent with Sunday night's television speech, where Bush asked Americans to continue to support the Iraq War. Lewis is the first major House figure to suggest impeaching Bush.

Lewis said --quote-- "It's a very serious charge, but he violated the law.The president should abide by the law. He deliberately, systematically violated the law. He is not King, he is president."

That's the entire article.

14. This is exactly the reason he made such a spectacle of himself
today. I figured the word would FINALLY start coming out after he admitted he broke the law without even blinking.

What worries me is that if he STILL thinks he has the right to break the law and now he even OPENLY admits it he must really believe he cannot be prosecuted for it.

Chimpy may be short a few brain cells but his staff isn't and one would think THEY thought through all the ramifications BEFORE he admitted it publicly.

We are a nation of laws. Remember that phrase?

23. Proud to call her my Senator
She's been out there leading before. She's a fighter and on our side, unlike most of the others. Although we know the House has to initiate it, Senators saying it often out loud helps. I like it. Good for Boxer! I have an Impeach Bush sticker on my car. :)

RIP, John Spencer. :(
