Juan Cole is kicking ass again!
This is from Sunday's blog -

"It was a good run, this United States of America with its Constitution and its Bill of Rights. How sad that a gang of unscrupulous criminals has been allowed to subvert its basic values altogether.

Is there even a single one of the guarantees in the Bill of Rights that Bush and his henchmen have not by now abrogated by royal fiat?

And why? Because of a single attack by a few hijackers from a small terrorist organization? The thousands lost in the Revolutionary War did not deter the Founding Fathers from enshrining these rights in the Constitution! The fledgling American Republic was far more unstable and facing far more dangers when this document was passed into law than the unchallengeable hyperpower that now bestrides the globe as a behemoth.

Have we lost our minds?"

Yes, Juan, along with all else we have lost...

3. Have we lost our minds?"
The sixty four thousand dollar question. There is no other reasonable explanation. Mass indoctrination through exactly the same process as cults use..

6. No, we haven't lost our minds; these people are quite sane
Through ignorance, fear, and the tough-guy Reaganite posturing, we've allowed this to happen. Some are merely oblivious to what's happened, some are cowed into it out of sheer fright, but some strutting assholes revel in the curtailing of the rights of others and are so deluded with their sense of superiority that they don't even see how this puts them in peril too. Surely some are now over that nebulous line into insanity, but most seem to have gone along willingly and with all sorts of rationales. As for the leaders who did this, they're hardly basket cases.

Junior's pretty much insane, but Rumsfelt and Cheney are smart and quite sane; they're just wicked greedheads bent on world domination.

People like to shield themselves from human ugliness by calling it insanity; there's plenty of just plain ol' evil out there.
