You can call their Public Relations group and tell them to continue to support the "I Can" program at 1-608-836-4848. Damn it, I'm sick of the religious right ramming their agenda down our throats.
On Edit: I talked at length with a supervisor in customer relations about this and pointed out how important it is for American Girl to not only spread the message of building strong, healthy attitudes in girls but to LIVE that message via programs like "I Can." (BTW, the Huffington Post article has good information to point out to AG if you call:
http://rufnkiddingme.blogspot.com/2005/12/and-now-to-destroy-any-potential-good.htmlI also pointed out that the program is a choice for people; if you don't want to support the program, don't buy the bracelet. They said the program was a "temporary, holiday" program that will end on Dec. 26, yet no where in their press release do they mention that this is a "temporary, holiday" program.
http://www.americangirl.com/corp/media/2005/0822ican.html I told them that they misled us and if they need to come clean with the truth, if they are discontinuing this program. Of course, I encouraged them to continue with the program, either by continuing with the bracelet program or coming up with another way to support it.
I know there's a war on; I know there are people in New Orleans who have no home, no money. I know our civil liberties are erroding more & more every day. I know that in the grand scheme of things, this AG thing may not be a big thing to many others. But for those who have little girls who love their dolls, books, stories, etc., you know that the message that in being sent to our girls is a good one: be smart, be strong, be confident, be healthy. Girls Inc. is one of the living examples of what American Girl is promoting.
